Abstract:

The invention provides a light curing method, including: providing a light curing apparatus having at least one light source, at least one fan and a curing volume. A first polymerizable shaped material is positioned within the curing volume. The light source and the fan are controlled to heat the first polymerizable shaped material to temperatures within a first temperature range. The light source and the fan are controlled to maintain the first polymerizable shaped material at temperatures within the first temperature range for at least 1 minute. A second polymerizable shaped material is positioned within the curing volume. The light source and the fan are controlled to heat the second polymerizable shaped material to temperatures within a second temperature range. The light source and the fan are controlled to maintain the second polymerizable shaped material at temperatures within the second temperature range for at least 1 minute. The first temperature range has a first midpoint and the second temperature range has a second midpoint. The first midpoint is at least 15 C. from the second midpoint.

Abstract:

A method for light-curing polymerizable materials to form a dental device is provided. A light-curing apparatus having at least one integrated lighting and heating source, a curing volume, and a temperature controller, preferably a fan, is used in the method. The light source and temperature controller are used to heat a first polymerizable material to temperatures within a first temperature range. A second polymerizable material is applied on or adjacent to the first polymerizable material. The light source and temperature controller are used to heat the second polymerizable material to temperatures within a second temperature range. The first temperature range has a first midpoint and the second temperature range has a second midpoint. The first midpoint temperature is at least 10 C. apart from the second midpoint temperature. The system is particularly suitable for making dental devices such as full dentures, removable partial dentures, relines of full and partial dentures, nightguards, and occlusal splints.

Abstract:

Dental guards, particularly night guards, used by patients to protect their teeth against the effects of grinding and bruxism are provided. Methods and kits for making such dental guards are also included. A light-curable polymerizable arch material is used to fabricate the dental guard. Preferably, the material contains polymerizable acrylic compounds, color-changing cure indicator, and particulate filler. The material is molded to conform to the shape of a dental arch of a patient and light-cured to form the dental guard.

Abstract:

A dental prosthesis includes polymeric material formed by heat curing a polymerizable composition having at least 5 percent by weight of at least one polymerizable Monomer having at least one acrylic moiety and a gram molecular weight of at least 200. The polymeric material is preferably formed by heat curing and has an unnotched Izod impact strength of at least 2. 5 and more preferably at least 3. 0 ft. lb/in as measured by a Modified ASTM D256, and a flexural fatigue life of at least 20,000 flexes to failure at 0. 1 inch deflection. Preferably the polymerizable monomer has a vapor pressure less than 5 mm Hg at 23. degree. C. A method of making a denture is provided which includes molding and polymerizing the polymerizable composition to form a denture. Preferably the polymerizable composition includes polymerizable compounds made up of at least 5 percent by weight of the acrylic Monomer having a gram molecular weight of at least 300 and less than 5 percent by weight of Volatile compounds and less than 2 percent by weight of Low Molecular Weight acrylic compounds having a gram molecular weight of less than 200.

Abstract:

A method of forming dental products, such as dentures, denture relines, dental crowns, dental bridges and dental restorative materials, temporary crown, temporary bridge, provisional crown or provisional bridge, from two polymerizable paste compositions each having a complimentary component of a free radical catalyst system and a polymerizable acrylic compound. One of these paste compositions includes an oxidizing agent and a stabilizer and the other includes a reducing agent as components of a redox catalyst system for free radical polymerization. These paste compositions are mixed in a static mixer to form a polymerizing paste composition, which is then shaped into a dental prosthesis. A handheld mixing dispenser useful in carrying out this method, includes a static mixing conduit, and two containers enclosing the polymerizable paste compositions. The static mixing conduit encloses a static mixing member.
