  • Abstract:
A piston includes a swirl pocket that extends radially from the radially outer lip portion to a lower axial extremity spaced away from the radially outer lip portion a first axial distance. A convex arcuate surface extends downwardly and inwardly from the radially outer lip portion, a concave arcuate surface extends to the lower axial extremity from the convex arcuate surface, and a conical portion extends upwardly and inwardly from the concave arcuate surface to an apex that is spaced a second axial distance from the radially outer lip portion that is less than the first axial distance.

    20160252036, Sep 1, 2016
  • Filed:
    May 10, 2016
  • Appl. No.:
    15/150751
  • Inventors:
    - Peoria IL, US
Arvind Sivasubramanian - Peoria IL, US
Shaun D. Fogle - Peoria IL, US
David J. Lin - Peoria IL, US
  • Assignee:
    Caterpillar Inc. - Peoria IL
  • International Classification:
    F02D 41/24
    F02D 41/14
  • Abstract:
The disclosure provides a method to operate an engine system. The method begins by determination of a current NOvalue. If the current NOvalue is greater than a first predetermined NOtarget, an air-fuel ratio (AFR) set-point is adjusted by a first predetermined value in towards a rich AFR. Upon detection of the current NOvalue below the first predetermined NOtarget, a first average of NOvalues for a first predetermined time is determined. The AFR set-point is adjusted by a second predetermined value and a second average of NOvalues for a second predetermined time is determined. A delta NOvalue is determined as a difference between the first average and the second average and compared with a second predetermined NOtarget. The AFR set-point is determined when the delta NOvalue is below the second predetermined NOtarget.
  • Engine Fluid Cooling Assembly

  • US Patent:
    20150198080, Jul 16, 2015
  • Filed:
    Mar 27, 2015
  • Appl. No.:
    14/670815
  • Inventors:
    - Peoria IL, US
Vasanthakumar Ganesan - Dunlap IL, US
Shaun Fogle - Peoria IL, US
Peitong Jin - Dunlap IL, US
  • International Classification:
    F01P 11/08
    F28D 1/02
  • Abstract:
A baffle for engine fluid cooling includes a fluid guide having a pair of side walls, a bottom wall, and a coolant fluid inlet. A channel receives a pair of heat exchangers such that one may be positioned proximate to or above a part of the bottom wall and the other may be positioned proximate to or above another part of the bottom wall. Some coolant entering the guide flows into the first heat exchanger and some coolant is passed under the first heat exchanger and subsequently into the second heat exchanger.
