Abstract:

A system is provided for removing particulate matter from a diesel particulate filter. The diesel particulate filter includes at least one diesel particulate filter unit to filter particulate matter from diesel engine exhaust gas received from a diesel engine. The system includes a sensor positioned adjacent to at least one diesel particulate filter unit, where the sensor is configured to determine the extent of particulate matter trapped within the diesel particulate filter unit. The system further includes an engine controller coupled to the sensor and the diesel engine, where the sensor is configured to output a first alert signal to the engine controller upon determining that the trapped particulate matter exceeds a predetermined threshold. The engine controller is configured to increase the temperature of the diesel exhaust gas entering the diesel particulate filter upon receiving the first alert signal.

Abstract:

A lumbar traction apparatus for applying traction to the back of a patient includes a frame structure, a winch support structure extending above the frame structure, a winch assembly having a hand crank mounted on the winch support structure, two harnesses for wrapping around the torso of the patient, tensioning cords extending from the winch assembly each to one of the two harnesses, so that rotating the hand crank on the winch assembly gathers both of these cords and thereby pulls the harnesses apart to create traction in the back of the patient. The frame structure preferably includes a connecting segment, a first arm segment substantially perpendicular and joined to the connecting segment, and a second arm segment substantially perpendicular and joined to the connecting segment and spaced apart from the first arm segment. The connecting segment is preferably formed of two telescoping portions for convenient assembly and disassembly of the frame structure for transport and storage. The winch support structure is preferably located substantially at the middle of the connecting segment and above the patient.

Abstract:

A device, worn on a part of the human body, which alerts the wearer when that body part deviates a set angular amount from true vertical, comprising a housing containing an attitude responsive switch which controls an electrical circuit. When the switch is positioned or rotated beyond a set angle, the circuit is completed and a battery activates a buzzer. The device is adjustable by rotation of the housing such that the amount of allowable deviation can be increased or decreased.

Abstract:

An economical and accurate tilt switch, which incorporates a reed switch, a small disc shaped magnet, and an enclosed track in which the magnet is allowed to roll just enough to affect the contacts of the reed switch. Invented to replace the well known mercury switch, but avoid the environmental hazards of mercury poisoning. The present tilt switch can be adapted into many different designs providing a wider range of switching characteristics than that of the old mercury switch.
