Abstract:
A method and apparatus for multi-level encrypted encoding and decoding of digital signals, which includes utilizing only one type of encoder and one type of decoder. This can be either the same encoder and decoder used in throughout the process, or multiple, identical encoders and decoders. This allows the system to compensate for atmospheric degradation with higher bandwidth efficiency and a simplified receiver structure. The invention further identifies a 2 symbol generation technique that maps in disjoint regions of X-dimensional space, which allows different data bits to be eliminated from the decoding scheme and maximizes the number of independent data substreams that can be maintained.
Universal Error Control Coding System For Digital Communication And Data Storage Systems
The universal forward error-correction coding system provides adjustable code rates and coding gains to greatly benefit the design of many modern digital communications (data storage) systems. The channel encoding and decoding methods are universal such that a single encoder and a single decoder can be used to implement all the forward error-correction codes of different code rates. This universal forward error-correction coding system also includes a novel systematic code generation procedure that has the capability of generating many classes of codes that provide the best balance between coding gain performance and implementation complexity.

Abstract:
The Universal Packet Loss Recovery System is capable of recovering end-to-end network packet losses to obtain reliable end-to-end network delivery of multimedia streaming content over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, where packet losses appear above the transport layer. This system incorporates the use of Packet Forward Error Correction Coding (FEC) with packet interleaving processing prior to transport. Packet FEC Coding is an error correction coding method at the packet level which improves link transmission reliability. At the source end of the packet-switching network, the Packet FEC Coding scheme encodes a stream of transport multimedia content packets by including redundant packets to allow for recovery of lost packets by the Packet FEC Coding decoder at the user end of the packet-switching network. Since lost packets appear only above the transport layer in the IP network protocol stack, Packet FEC Coding can be viewed as a transport layer or application layer coding method.

Abstract:
A system for encouraging a user to perform substantial physical activity. The system may include sensors that may be worn by the user while the user is performing a substantial physical activity, such as running or playing basketball. The sensors may detect the magnitude of the physical activity and may transmit data regarding the physical activity to a processing system. The processing system may display a reward to encourage the user for participating in physical activity and the reward provided may be based on the physical activity of the user.

Abstract:
A hybrid scheme for controlling transmission errors in digital data communication systems. Normally, data blocks with a small number of parity digits for error detection are transmitted. When the presence of errors is detected, the retransmissions are not the original data blocks but some properly selected blocks for correcting errors in those erroneously received data blocks which are stored in a buffer at the receiver. The retransmitted blocks are formed based on the original data blocks and error-correcting codes with an invertible property. When such blocks are received, they are used to recover the original data blocks either by an inversion operation or by a decoding process.

Abstract:
A differential trellis decoding method for convolutional codes is provided which eliminates from candidacy half of the transitions in each round that it is used, thereby obviating the need for weight calculations for the eliminated transitions. The method is based on a decomposition of the code trellis into fully connected bipartite graphs and the observation that the symmetry of the bipartite graphs of the trellis permits the comparison and selection process for one state to influence the comparison and selection process for other states in the bipartite graph. This method results in a reduced number of operations and hence a reduced complexity for convolutional decoding.
