Improved additives for lubricants and motor fuels are provided by reacting a petroleum sulfonic acid with an adduct formed from an amine and an aldehyde. Lubricating oil compositions and motor fuels containing said additives are also provided.

Abstract:
Hydrogenated completely random conjugated diene/monovinylarene copolymers with a conjugated diene content above about 50 weight percent, monovinylarene content below about 50 weight percent, vinyl unsaturation (normalized) at least about 25 weight percent, block polymonovinylarene below about 5 weight percent, and molecular weight M. sub. n in the range of about 30,000-200,000, are soluble in synthetic poly(. alpha. -olefin) lubricating oils providing therein effective viscosity index control, pour point, and shear loss at low concentrations.
Improved additives for lubricants and motor fuels are provided by reacting a petroleum sulfonic acid with an adduct formed from an amine and either urea or thiourea. Lubricating oil compositions and motor fuels containing said additives are also provided.
Fuel Additives From So.sub.2 Treated Mixtures Of Amides And Esters Derived From Vegetable Oil, Tall Oil Acid, Or Aralkyl Acid

Abstract:
(1) Vegetable oils, particularly soybean oil (2) tall oil acid, or (3) aralkyl acids, particularly phenylstearic acid, are reacted with multiamines, particularly tetraethylenepentamine, to form a product mixture for subsequent reaction with SO. sub. 2 to produce a product mix that has good detergent properties in fuels.
Treatment Of Sulfur-Containing Lubricating Oil To Increase Resistance To Oxidation
A method for treating sulfur-containing lubricating oil, by contacting the oil with iodine in the presence of an aqueous solution of alkali and thereafter separating the treated oil from the contacting solution. A lubricating oil having increased resistance to oxidation produced by this method.

International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
Fatty acids are reacted with aminoalkylalkanolamines to form amide amine alcohols, multiamide-alcohols, or multiamide-esters that have good detergent properties in fuels and lubricants. In an embodiment of the invention reaction products in which all of the reactant nitrogen has not been amidated are further reacted with arylsulfonic acid to provide more water tolerant products.
Superior ashless additives for lubricants are prepared by a process comprising first introducing a petroleum sulfonic acid and a polyamine to a reaction zone and subsequently introducing a cyclic anhydride of a dicarboxylic acid into the reaction zone. In another embodiment, the solids content of the additives is reduced to acceptable levels by removal of free SO. sub. 2 from the petroleum sulfonic acid prior to preparing the additive. Lubricating oil compositions containing these ashless additives are also provided.

Abstract:
Internal olefins such as those obtained from a disproportionation of 1-olefins like 1-decene are dimerized over a promoted boron trifluoride catalyst to yield oils useful as lubricant basestock.
