  • Assignee:
    Apple Inc. - Cupertino CA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 1/26
    G06F 13/42
  • Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for enhanced power delivery between devices. In one embodiment, the power delivery is enhanced relative to legacy capabilities, and a source device negotiates with a sink device to establish a high-voltage (HV) power contract. In one variant, such HV operation enables power delivery greater than the legacy USB-C standard maximum of 20 V and 100 W. In one implementation, the source, sink, and/or source and sink collectively ensure that multiple criteria relating to power delivery are met for the interface (i.e., source, the sink, and the interposed cable or power delivery medium). Multiple conditions, including enclosure construction compliance and device capabilities, must be cleared to ensure safety while operating beyond standard maximums. If the criteria are met, HV validation is complete, and the source may offer HV operation to the sink to establish the HV contract. Additional fail-safe mechanisms enable the HV contract to discontinue upon triggering.
  • Real-Time Haptics Generation

  • US Patent:
    20190213852, Jul 11, 2019
  • Filed:
    Jan 4, 2019
  • Appl. No.:
    16/239815
  • Inventors:
    - San Jose CA, US
Srivatsav VENKATESAN - Sunnyvale CA, US
  • International Classification:
    G08B 6/00
    H04L 25/49
  • Abstract:
One embodiment provides haptic functionality. The embodiment receives an encoded value that encodes an actuator drive value, where the actuator drive value corresponds to a strength of a haptic effect. The embodiment converts the encoded value into a pattern of ON/OFF durations, and plays back the pattern of ON/OFF durations on an actuator to produce the haptic effect.
  • Haptic Pitch Control

  • US Patent:
    20190103004, Apr 4, 2019
  • Filed:
    Sep 28, 2018
  • Appl. No.:
    16/146012
  • Inventors:
    - San Jose CA, US
William S. RIHN - San Jose CA, US
Srivatsav VENKATESAN - Sunnyvale CA, US
  • International Classification:
    G08B 6/00
  • Abstract:
Haptic pitch control for producing haptic feedback by receiving capability information of a haptic output device, and determining a desired or target perceptual frequency or pitch. A haptic effect is then generated based on the capability information so that the haptic effect is rendered by the haptic output device at the desired or target perceptual frequency or pitch.
  • Method, Computing Device, And System For Generating A Mixed Haptic Track For A Mixed Haptic Effect

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20190054373, Feb 21, 2019
  • Filed:
    Jul 28, 2018
  • Appl. No.:
    16/048249
  • Inventors:
    - San Jose CA, US
Srivatsav Venkatesan - San Jose CA, US
  • International Classification:
    A63F 13/285
    A63F 13/24
    A63F 13/23
  • Abstract:
A system comprising a computing device and a haptic-enabled controller is presented. The haptic-enabled controller provides user input. The device determines a controller type of the haptic-enabled controller, and determines that a mixed haptic effect combining first and second haptic effects is to be generated by a haptic actuator of the controller. The device selects a first haptic track associated with the first haptic effect and with a combination of the controller type and the actuator, and selects a second haptic track that is associated with the second haptic effect and with the combination of the controller type and the actuator. The device selects a parameter value of an operation parameter, and generates, based on the parameter value, a mixed haptic track that combines the first and second haptic tracks. The device controls the haptic actuator to generate the mixed haptic effect with the mixed haptic track.

  • US Patent:
    20180004291, Jan 4, 2018
  • Filed:
    Jul 1, 2016
  • Appl. No.:
    15/200476

    G06F 3/01
    G06F 3/0482
    H04L 29/06
    H04L 29/08
  • Abstract:
A computer-based method for controlling a haptic actuator over a network is provided. The method includes, at a haptic server, receiving a selection of a haptic actuator connected to a haptic hardware support platform, receiving a selection of a haptic effect driver software package or library, receiving a selection of a haptic effect, creating a haptic command message including haptic actuator drive values, and transmitting the haptic command message to the haptic hardware support platform over the network. The haptic hardware support platform is configured to receive the haptic command message over the network, parse the haptic command message to extract the haptic actuator drive values, and apply a haptic actuator drive signal to the haptic actuator to play the selected haptic effect, the haptic actuator drive signal based on the haptic actuator drive values.
