A device enables a patient to perform non-invasive punctal occlusion by applying firm pressure to the skin external to the lacrimal canaliculi during the administration of eyedrop medicine, for the purpose of prolonging the medicine retention time. The device of this invention may be adjusted to fit the nasal aspect of the orbital rims where the lacrimal canaliculi are located. The pressure to be applied on the lacrimal canaliculi is adjustable to meet the optimal pressure requirement. The device also has a visual reference attachment that provides visual referencing points for positioning the tip of the eyedrop bottle towards the eyes. This device enables a hands-free operation and does not interfere with the wearing of eyeglasses.
The embodiment of this invention is a high capacity vacuum suction cup that is very light in weight and can hold up a very heavy load. The light weight construction includes a radial laminated, flexible Kevlar fabric suction cup reinforced with a rigid outskirt ring. The hoist ring attachment assembly is optimally sized for grabbing the cup but not breaking the cup fabric under minimum weight constraint. The suction cup utilizes a gum material sealer ring to seal vacuum on unsmooth but nonporous surface. The suction cup has a vacuum hose attachment nozzle that allows hooking up of external vacuum hose. A typical high capacity suction cup of this invention weighs about five pounds and can hold up more than 2,500 pounds of load.

Abstract:
A control device includes both a heating element and a temperature sensor. The control device has the form of a Wheatstone bridge which applies sensing current to the heating element. When the bridge is unbalanced, the control device may apply heating current to the heating element. In one embodiment, the sensing current is switched, so that it flows only for a relatively small part of the electrical cycle. The circuit also includes a provision for reduction or elimination of electrical spikes. The circuit further includes a calibration arrangement, which enables the user to adjust the bridge without passing heating current through the heating element. Another feature of the invention enables the set point of the bridge to be remotely controlled, by adjusting a level of analog current applied to the bridge. The circuit also includes an arrangement for compensating for temperature-induced changes in its components. It also enables the heating element to be located relatively far from its control circuitry, without suffering from undue losses or inaccuracy.

Abstract:
A biomedical measuring device, such as a test strip, has a simple structure, by which analyte can be measured easily using a small amount of specimen. In embodiments, the test strip generally includes a plastic first film layer having structure defining an aperture for retaining the reacting components, a porous membrane coupled to an inner-facing surface of the first film layer and configured to reduce background signal, an absorbent pad coupled to the porous membrane and first film layer to sandwich the porous membrane therebetween, the absorbent pad being configured for rapid absorption, and a plastic second film layer coupled to the absorbent pad, the second film layer being configured to provide a barrier to prevent liquid from leaking out of the test strip during use. The test strip can be easily used with an optical sensing device coupled to or containing an analyzer device (or reader device) for quickly detecting and measuring the analyte concentration. In a particular embodiment, the analyte comprises glycated hemoglobin or HbA1c, and the optical reader device is configured to determine HbA1c concentration.
A device is used to temporarily compress the nasolacrimal ducts to reduce outflow of eyedrop during and after eyedrop instillation. The device is to be hand bended to snuggly fit any adult head sizes with any facial features so that the nose pads may apply firm pressure over the nasal aspect of the orbital rim where nasolacrimal ducts lay underneath the skin. The pressure delivered by the device is consistent and is controllable by the user. The device includes failure mechanism to protect against excessive pressure. By keeping eyedrops in the eye, medication absorption is improved and bitter taste due to eydrop outflow is reduced or eliminated. It alleviates the burden of manual nasolacrimal occlusion currently practiced by eye patients and is best for frequent, multiple eyedrops users.
