Abstract:

Spinal surgery systems are provided. In one embodiment, a system includes threaded caps and screw assemblies. Each assembly includes a cannulated and threaded screw having upper and lower ends, a polyaxial head permanently fixed to the screw upper end in a ball-and-socket engagement, and an extension portion fixed to the head wherein extension portion movement causes the head to move in concert. Each head has a receiving area for engaging a rod and a threaded area for receiving one of the caps after the rod is engaged in the receiving area. Each extension portion has: (a) two arms spaced apart such that the arms are on opposite sides of the polyaxial head receiving area; and (b) at least one point of weakness such that forcing the arms away from one another causes the extension portion to divide at the point of weakness and separate the extension portion from the head.

Abstract:

A projection caller ID system includes a caller ID display and controls and a projection arm to project caller ID data including caller name and number onto a surface such as a wall or ceiling. The projection arm includes a slave transparent LCD which is illuminated by LEDs to project an image of the caller ID data through a lens onto a surface. The projection caller ID system allows the caller ID data to be read from a distance from the caller ID unit and in a low light or dark environment as well as a normal ambient light environment.

Abstract:

A nut gatherer includes a hollow drum formed by a plurality of wires. Each of the wires has a bowed middle segment and two end portions. The end portions are preferably hooked. A pair of hubs secures the hooked ends of the wires to form the drum there between. A handle is rotatably mounted to the hubs and a handle extension is removably coupled with the handle. In use, the handle or handle extension is used to rotate the drum into contact with an object, such as a nut, where the object then forces the wires to separate and permit the object to move from outside the drum to inside said drum. Once contact between the object and the wires is terminated, the wires return to their original position thereby trapping the object within the drum.

Abstract:

The invention is directed to an apparatus, system and methods for growing high-purity crystals of substances that are peritectic at atmospheric pressure. The apparatus includes a pressure vessel that contains a pressurized gas. The apparatus also includes a cooling unit that is situated in the pressure vessel. The cooling unit receives a coolant flow from outside of the vessel, and has cooled surfaces that define an enclosure that receives the charge material. The apparatus further includes an inductive heating element situated in the vessel, that is coupled to receive electric power externally to the vessel. The element heats the interior portion of the charge material to form a molten interior portion contained by a relatively cool, exterior solid-phase portion of the charge material that is closer relative to the molten interior, to the cooled surfaces of the cooling unit. Because the exterior portion is the same material as the contained molten interior portion, few impurities are introduced to the molten interior portion of the charge material. Due to the pressure exerted by the gas contained in the vessel, the liquid interior of the charge material becomes congruently melting to prevent its peritectic decomposition.

Abstract:

Opposite end portions of the wires are secured within opposed hubs, each hub including first and second annular sets of spaced teeth, with the end portions of the wires secured in the radially-aligned spaces. A retainer affixed to the hub secures the wires between. A compressible washer between the wires and the retainer provides further securement and vibration dampening. An axle aperture in the hubs allows the cage to be rotatably attached to a handle.
