Abstract:

A method and apparatus for controlling an interactive human-machine interface, which includes an input device and comprises a set of states. The set of states form a network through which data can be passed as a token. In a dialogue control unit, future states are assessed to determine allowable user inputs that may be received from the user. Each portion of the user input is stored in an associated node of the token, for use in the current state or in another of the active states. Each node is checked to see if it relates to the current state, and if so, then the portion of the user input stored in the node is processed.

A control system for a modular, mixed initiative, human-machine interface. The control system comprises moves, the moves defining units of interaction about a topic of information. The moves comprise at least one system move and at least one user move. Each system move is structured such that it contains information regarding pre-processing to be performed, information to develop a prompt to be issued to the user and information that enables possible user moves which can follow the system move to be listed. Each user move is structured such that it contains information relating to interpretation grammars that trigger the user move, information relating to processing to be performed based upon received and recognized data and information regarding the next move to be invoked. Abstract:

Monitoring a spoken-word audio stream for a relevant concept is disclosed. A speech recognition engine may recognize a plurality of words from the audio stream. Function words that do not indicate content may be removed from the plurality of words. A concept may be determined from at least one word recognized from the audio stream. The concept may be determined via a morphological normalization of the plurality of words. The concept may be associated with a time related to when the at least one word was spoken. A relevance metric may be computed for the concept. Computing the relevance metric may include assessing the temporal frequency of the concept within the audio stream. The relevance metric for the concept may be based on respective confidence scores of the at least one word. The concept, time, and relevance metric may be displayed in a graphical display.

Abstract:

A method of analyzing dialog between a user and an interactive application having dialog turns is provided. The method includes accessing information indicative of a plurality of dialog turns between the application and at least one user and identifying instances where the application determined a response was received before an associated prompt had completed. The accessed information includes information related to operation of the application with a first grammar to recognize the response. The method includes identifying whether the response was received in a particular limited time period from when the associated prompt began. If the response was received in the limited time period, the method determines whether the response included one or more terms from the associated prompt by performing recognition on the response using a second grammar having more information related to grammar of a language than the first grammar.
