Abstract:

A device for feeding web material to a printer that is adapted to accept web from an external roll, adequately align the web with the printer and properly tension the web as it passes through the printer. The infeed device includes a pair of parallel guide rods spaced sufficiently apart to allow passage of the web there between. A pair of edge guides, attached to the parallel guide rods define the web path there through. A spring-loaded pressure pad acts in combination with a smooth metal shoe to tension the web. Further tension is applied to the web as it passes a curved smooth metal surface, just prior to entering the printer. The infeed device allows a wide variety of web materials and web thicknesses to be tensioned and fed into the printer.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus is presented for stabilizing a free loop of web material between two web handling devices. The present invention employs fans or other forced air sources, directed toward the inner surface of the free loop, to maintain a stable free loop shape, thereby permitting simplified web handling and more accurate control of the web feeding or web take-up rate.

Abstract:

A system for conveying folded web and forming discrete stacks of folded web comprising a conveyor that receives a stack of folded output web from a web folder and separator. The conveyor drives the web from an upstream end, adjacent the web folder and separator, to a downstream end. A supporting surface, which can comprise a plurality of pivoting rails biased by a spring, selectively supports the web remote from and off of the conveyor so that a compressed stack can be formed adjacent the folder and separator. At selected times, the stack is moved by the supporting surface into communication with the folder and separator so that it can be conveyed downstream. An elevator platform can be located at the downstream location for receiving successive stacks thereon. The elevator ascends and descends so that the tops of the successive stacks are aligned with the conveyor for receipt of a further stack thereon. The elevator platform can include a drive that enables it to rotate so that successive stacks are deposited on the elevator platform in a rotationally offset orientation relative to each other.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatus provide for a light-conductive housing of a status-indicating connector. The status-indicating connector has an engagement portion attached to the light-conductive housing. The engagement portion places the status-indicating connector in electrical communication with a circuit board. An illuminative portion of the light-conductive housing can be illuminated by light delivered via the light-conductive housing of the status-indicating connector. The illuminative portion of the light-conductive housing is illuminated by the light based on a current status of a connection between the engagement portion and the circuit board. The light is provided by an external light source associated with the circuit board or a light source internal to the status-indicating connector.
