Abstract:

It has been found that casein and salts of casein are useful as replacements for, or in addition to, BSA as materials for coating solid phases, particularly magnetic particles, used in immunoassays and other binding assays for separation of the desired analyte. By using casein, immunoassays having improved stability and fewer discordant samples have been developed. Casein used at a concentration of 0. 05-4. 0 grams per gram of paramagnetic particle (optimally approximately 0. 78-1. 2 grams of casein per gram of magnetic particle) has been found to confer this benefit.

Abstract:

It has been found that casein and salts of casein are useful as replacements for, or in addition to, BSA as materials for coating solid phases, particularly magnetic particles, used for immunoassays and other binding assays for separation of the desired analyte. In addition, a process for coating solid phases has been invented, said process comprising the mixing of casein with magnetic particles at 30-60Â C. for 5-180 hours, said process resulting in casein-coated paramagnetic particles which either (1) already have combined therewith active ingredients needed in the binding assay or (2) are capable of reacting with active ingredients needed in the binding assay. Furthermore, a process for using the casein-coated paramagnetic particles have been developed, said particles being directly or indirectly combined with active ingredients used in the immunoassays.

Abstract:

A shuttle bobbin (1) for sewing machines having a first (11) and second (12) disc-shaped end walls concentrically and integrally formed at both ends of a hub. The diameter of the first end wall (11) being larger than that of the second end wall (12). A partition wall (13) is concentrically and integrally formed at an intermediate portion of the hub, thus partitioning the hub into firsts and second winding parts (15a, 15b). The partition wall (13) is smoothly toothed (13a, 13b) at its outside edges, thus having rounded teeth and rounded roots at the outside edges. The diameter of the addendum circle of the toothed partition wall (13) is equal to the diameter of the first end wall (11) while the diameter of the deddendum circle is equal to the second end wall (12). The second winding part (15b), defined by the second end wall and the partition wall, is positioned just under the lowest position of a sewing needle when the bobbin is installed in a sewing machine. The thread carrying capacity of the above shuttle bobbin (1) is thus increased by the capacity, offered by the second winding part (15b), in comparison with a typical shuttle bobbin.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for preboot file and information transfer between workstations and other workstations or workstations and servers on local area networks. During a workstation boot sequence, the various components of the workstation and network operating system are loaded and executed. Since all control of the workstation after the boot sequence is passed to the workstation operating system, any management tasks performed after boot must be performed by application programs running on the workstation. The present invention overcomes problems created by using such application programs to perform management tasks by providing a hardware component, for example a ROM or PROM containing appropriate programming placed in the usually unused boot ROM socket of a LAN card installed in the individual workstations, or a chip including a PROM or ROM built onto the motherboard or system board of the individual workstations. The program in the PROM is set up so that, at system startup, prior to loading of the workstation operating system software during the boot sequence, it performs certain operating system functions by using the basic input/output system (BIOS) of the workstation to enable the workstation to communicate with a server on the network and make the necessary resources of the workstation available to a server management application running on the server via the network. This process, controlled by a system administrator, allows a variety of preboot functions to take place in the workstation.
