A system that can be dynamically configured to achieve an optimal routing path for an end-to-end data link connection is disclosed. An optimal data path can be determined by a digital subscriber loop (DSL) user based on particular bandwidth requirements, data rate cost constraints, and/or data delay requirements. The data path can be set up to include one or more data routes, including the regular digital public switching telephone network (PSTN), a wide area networks (WAN), or virtual permanent circuit links via digital cross-connects (DCS).

Abstract:

Memory modules are tested using a test assembly with a personal computer (PC) motherboard. The motherboard is mounted upside-down with its solder-side up to a metal plate using standoffs. A memory-module socket on the motherboard is removed. An opening is made in the metal plate above the removed socket. A well is attached to the metal plate at the opening. The well supports a test adaptor board below the metal plate so that the test adaptor board has a closer spacing to the motherboard than does the metal plate. The test adaptor board has a test socket that receives a module being tested. Pins from the test adaptor board are plugged into the holes of the removed socket on the motherboard, but mounted on the reverse, solder side of the motherboard rather than the component side. The cables, components, and expansion boards of the motherboards are hidden below the metal plate and motherboard, and can be cooled without cooling the memory module in the test socket. A top plate or air guide can be added above the metal plate to blow hot air on the memory module being tested in the test socket, while the cooling air is blown on the motherboard.

Abstract:

A device or interface driver is provided for permitting an operating system to utilize, configure and control a software modem having forward compatible and expandable functionality. In a preferred embodiment, the operating system is a Windows based system running on a host processing system such as a personal computer, and the modem is compatible with standards promulgated for ADSL. Conventional voice band modem control commands are also supported, so that the present invention for ADSL based modems is nevertheless compatible with existing modem applications programs. The new driver manages control information for configuring the bandwidth to be used in a data link established through a channel with an upstream transciever during an initialization process, and serves as a data pump for the software modem. The control information may be self-determined by a user of the host processing system or alternatively, automatically sensed, configured and monitored by such processing system.

Abstract:

A system and method for the on-demand transcoding of media content from a source type to a destination type is provided, wherein the system includes a plurality of transcoders for transcoding from a plurality of source types to a plurality of destination types, and wherein the system receives a transcoding request for media content, fetches the media content in response to the transcoding request, sends the media content to one of the plurality of transcoders based on the source type and destination type, transcodes the media content from the source type to the destination type, thereby generating transcoded media content, and transmits the transcoded media content. The system fetches, sends, and transcodes the media content and transmits the transcoded media content in a pipelined fashion. The system also provides for the publication of media content as a file or stream of digital data, for the archiving of media content, and the caching of transcoded media content to improve system efficiency.

Abstract:

A test station for testing memory modules uses multiple personal computer (PC) motherboards for performing functional tests on the modules. The motherboards are mounted upside-down with the solder-side up at the desktop level of the test station frame. One or more of the memory-module sockets on each motherboard is removed. A test adaptor board is plugged into the holes of the removed socket, but mounted on the reverse, solder side of the motherboard rather than the component side. The test adaptor board has a test socket that receives a module being tested. An overhead robotic arm picks up memory modules from an input tray and inserts them into test sockets for testing by the motherboards. Since the cables, components, and expansion boards of the motherboards are hidden below the solder-side surface of the motherboards, while the test adaptor board is above, the overhead robotic arm can easily navigate to the test socket without obstruction. Modules that pass are inspected in transit when the robotic arm holds the module in front of a camera that sends images to an image inspection processor.

A scalable Internet engine is comprised of a large number of commercially available server boards each arranged as an engine blade in a power and space efficient cabinet. The engine blades are removably positioned in a front side of the cabinet in a vertical orientation. A through plane in the middle of a chassis assembly within the cabinet provides common power and control peripheral signals to all engine blades. I/O signals for each engine blade are routed through apertures in the through plane to interface cards positioned in the rear of the cabinet. The scalable engine can accommodate different types of server boards in the same chassis assembly because of a common blade carrier structure. Different types of commercially available motherboards are mounted in the common blade carrier structure that provides a uniform mechanical interface to the chassis assembly. A specially designed PCI host board that can plug into various types of motherboards has a first connector for connecting to the through plane and second connector for connecting to the interface cards.
