Abstract:
A method and system for identifying relevant metrics among metrics that are measured to determine conformance with a service level agreement. The method includes selecting two sets of points, each set representing a given number of measurements for an individual metric and setting a separate threshold for each of the sets of points. The threshold values are selected to produce a set of quadrants so as to maximize distribution of points of intersection of each of the sets of points between a second quadrant and a fourth quadrant in a four-quadrant graph. The method can be performed on a computer system.
Method, Apparatus, And System For Using Tcp/Ip As The Transport Layer For Screen Phones
Application information is sent from an ADSI server to an ADSI compatible device using TCP/IP. Application protocol information is encapsulated according to ADSI message layer and datalink layer protocol specifications to form a bit stream of application information. The bit stream of application information is passed to a socket interface of a TCP/IP protocol stack in the server to form a TCP/IP representation of the application information. The TCP/IP representation of the application information is sent from the ADSI server to the ADSI compatible device over a TCP/IP based network. The TCP/IP representation of the application information is received into a TCP/IP protocol stack in the ADSI compatible device. The bit stream of application information is retrieved from a socket interface of the TCP/IP protocol stack in the ADSI compatible device. The application protocol information is unencapsulated from the retrieved bit stream of application information. The unencapsulated application protocol information is then used by the ADSI device to display information on the device and to provide visual application prompts. An analogous approach is used to send response information from the ADSI device to the ADSI server.

Abstract:
Enhanced telephone services are provided through a multi-service telephone switching system that contains a programmable adjunct connected to a telephone switching system. Specifically, this system includes a telephone switch that serves at least one subscriber and an adjunct connected both through one or more distinct paths, such as a number of hunt group lines, and through a datalink, such as a simplified message desk datalink, to the telephone switch. The telephone switch routes a telephone call involving this subscriber to the adjunct through an available hunt group line and provides a message to the adjunct over the datalink specifying a condition under which the call was routed. In response to this message, the adjunct takes complete control of the call substantially throughout the remainder of its duration and provides a desired enhanced service that has been pre-defined by a service script stored within the adjunct. Different service scripts can be invoked to provide correspondingly different enhanced services to the subscriber depending upon the specific condition for which the call was routed to the adjunct and/or a specific event occurring during the call.

Abstract:
A broadband customer premises equipment ("CPE") interface device interfaces with conventional telephones, screen phones, and broadband data and video devices. The interface device includes circuitry to connect with a telephone network via a first telephone connection and circuitry to connect with a broadband network via a second, broadband connection. The interface device can provide control of video information being pumped to the CPE via the broadband network by sending control signals to a video server via the telephone network. In addition, the interface device includes ADSI off-hook alerting ("AOHA") circuitry and adds ADSI script management server ("ASMS") circuitry to provide noninvasive programming of screen phone-type CPE devices. ASMS programming information for a CPE device is transferred to the interface device via the broadband network and stored in the interface device. The AOHA and ASMS circuitry requests the CPE device to go off-hook when idle, without ringing the CPE device like a conventional telephone call.
Method And Apparatus For Providing Extended Capability Telephone Services Via An Automated Server
Automated servers can provide a wide-variety of services and information to users via communications vehicles such as telephones. Such servers are often designed to interact specifically with an abstract model of user input/output equipment having well-defined features, such as telephones having text screens and programmable "softkeys". A web interface apparatus adapts communications between server logic and a web browser, wherein data exchanged with the server logic is associated with features of an abstract model of user input/output equipment, and wherein the web browser lacks at least one of the features of the abstract model of the user input/output equipment. In one embodiment, data packets received from the server logic are converted into web pages. In another aspect of the invention, the web interface apparatus itself models some aspects of the abstract model of the user input/output equipment (such as softkeys) which are not otherwise supported by the web browser. This may be performed by having the web interface apparatus store an expected response or service, and by inserting a hyperlink and associated tag into the web page for the purpose of detecting when a user of the web browser has selected the function to be performed by the softkey.
Methods And Apparatus For Creating Automated Servers For Display Telephones
A development system for generating an automated server application program includes a server and a development tool. The server is responsive to a set of server control signals for providing a service to an expanded capability telephone via a telephone network, the service being in the form of signals that are exchanged with the expanded capability telephone. The development tool generates the set of server control signals, and operates by generating a set of graphical interfaces for displaying current service parameters to a developer, and receiving new values of the service parameters from the developer. A set of objects are provided in the development tool, each possessing predefined properties and exhibiting predefined behavior, whereby the set of objects defines the functionality of the development tool. The development tool modifies the set of objects in accordance with the new values of the service parameters, and generates the set of server control signals as a function of the modified set of objects. The development system may be adapted to operate in an environment in which the expanded capability telephone is an Analog Display Services Interface (ADSI)-compatible telephone, and the exchange of signals is in accordance with an ADSI protocol.
