Abstract:

The process and network processes a mobility origination message, derives the subscribers location and constructs a set of coupons or advertisements based on that location, for that subscriber, and at that particular time. The coupons or advertisements are then transmitted to the subscribers handset. A retailer enters the various advertisements or coupons into the network for transmission to subscribers who call a predefined telephone number.

Abstract:

A mobile switching center receives a call to a wireless telephone unit and determines if the wireless telephone unit is available to receive calls. If the wireless unit is unavailable, the mobile switching center forwards the call to a wireless service node, preferably immediately and without providing any ring back tone to the calling party. The wireless service node prompts the calling party to speak a message for transmission to the wireless telephone unit. The wireless service node converts the message spoken by the calling party from a speech message to a text message and forwards text message to a short message service center for transmission to the wireless unit.

Abstract:

An apparatus and methods are provided for the communication of a data stream and management of faults in a multipath data network having a protected ring-in-ring network architecture. The data stream is communicated over redundant paths between various nodes located throughout the network. Each node is capable of dropping and inserting data from the data stream before passing it on to the next node. A single transmitter in communication with an intelligent splitter at each node is utilized to simultaneously transmit the data stream over the redundant paths. In the event of a fault over one of the paths in the network, the intelligent splitter manages the operation of the single transmitter so that the data stream is communicated over an alternate path to circumvent the fault.

Abstract:

An electro-mechanical induction watt-hour meter has a rotatable disc and a projection on the base directed into the meter terminating in proximity of the rotatable disc. The projection is part of a pulse initiator system where a pulse signal is transmitted through a selected area of the base that is transparent to the signal. A signal is generated externally of the meter and chopped by rotation of the disc providing a pulse signal that passes through the base of the meter to a receptor external to the meter. The signal generator and the pulse signal receptor are both located in the enclosure defined by the base of the meter and the receptacle socket for the meter. The generated signal is disclosed as a light beam that, by way of light guides on the meter base, is directed to one side of the rotating disc and is directed by one light guide and to the other side of the disc where another light guide returns the chopped or pulsed signal to the receptor.

Abstract:

A method of and system for processing calls to a wireless unit determines if the wireless unit is in a "page-only" mode or otherwise unavailable to receive the call. If said wireless unit is unavailable to receive the call, system determines if the calling party would like to send a page to the wireless unit. If so, the system sends a short message to the wireless unit. The short message identifies the calling party and provides an option to receive the call. When the wireless unit receives the short message page, the called party can elect to receive the call by sending short message response to the system. When the system receives the short message response, the system completes the call to said wireless unit if the short message response indicates selection of the option to receive the call.

Abstract:

A patient care environment includes a monitoring device and a vital sign device, where the vital sign device communicates patient vital sign data to the monitoring device. A site key, entity keys, and key combining algorithms are used to secure communications in the patient care environment. Neither the site key nor the entity keys are communicated between the monitoring device and the vital sign device. The monitoring device may use the site key and entity keys to decrypt encrypted messages that have been previously stored in the vital sign device and transmitted back to any monitoring device containing the correct set of site and entity keys. The site key and entity key may also be used during the discovery and/or connection operations between the monitoring device and the vital sign device to associate a wirelessly connected vital sign device with a patient record.

Abstract:

A system and method of sending a message to a cellular device having a non-dialable number is described. The system and method can use a standard cellular short code, and by associating the consumer handset with one or more M2M cellular subscriptions/devices enable communications between handsets and private M2M devices. The consumer handset sends an SMS to a short code which is delivered to an SMS Private Routing mechanism which then uses a pre-assigned association between the handset and the M2M device to route the SMS to the M2M cellular device using the private phone number.
