Abstract:

A method is disclosed for operating a gas-fired heater to maintain temperature within a zone. The gas-fired heater is modulated between a higher firing rate and a lower firing rate within a pseudo steady-state mode until a current firing rate exceeds a predetermined maximum time period t. The gas-fired heater is then modulated between an updated higher firing rate and an updated lower firing rate within a transient mode until an updated current firing rate exceeds a predetermined maximum time period t. Finally, the higher firing rate and the lower firing rate are redefined in a diagnostic mode until the gas-fired heater returns to the pseudo steady-state mode.

A clothes dryer has a heat source, preferably a heat pump, a rotating drum, and means to generate flow of air from the heat source to an inlet in the drum. At least two outlets are separated from each other in the drum to enable higher air flow rates without increase in pressure drop, resulting in reduced drying time.

Abstract:

A gas-fired heater includes a plurality of burners and one or more valves corresponding to one of the burners and operating between a closed position and an open position. A fuel supply is in fluidic communication with at least one of the burners when the one or more valves are in the open position. A modulator receives a temperature signal and computes, as a function of the temperature signal, and emits at least one control signal. The modulator then operates the one or more valves between the open position and the closed position as a function of the at least one control signal and controls the one or more valves to either activate or deactivate the burners for incrementally modulating a heat input to the gas-fired heater.

Abstract:

A manual pallet exchange system for exchanging a pallet on a work table of a horizontal machining center with another pallet from a storage rack or an optional set-up station. The system comprises a pallet shuttle cart which travels along a guideway that is positioned adjacent to the storage rack, the set-up station and the horizontal machining center. Receiving devices are provided on the horizontal machining center, the shuttle cart, the set-up station and each pallet storage location on the storage rack for receiving and supporting the pallet. A mechanically activated locking device provides for safely securing the pallet to the receiving devices of the storage rack, the set-up station and the shuttle cart.

Abstract:

The present disclosure relates to thermoelectric devices useful for a range of thermoelectric applications (e.g., high temperature thermoelectric generation, fluid conditioning). Thermoelectric devices may include one or more heat exchangers (e.g., coolant heat exchanger(s)) and one or more thermoelectric layers adjacent to the heat exchanger(s). An enclosure may surround the thermoelectric layer(s) and heat exchanger(s), providing a barrier from outside fluid (e.g., hot fluid flow). The enclosure may conduct heat between the outside surroundings and the thermoelectric layer(s). The heat exchanger(s) may be spaced from and movable or slidable relative to the enclosure, which may accommodate for certain thermal expansion effects. The enclosure may include a conformable surface adapted to conform substantially to the shape of the thermoelectric layer(s) (e.g., when a vacuum is applied). One or more thermally conductive members (e.g., fins) may extend from the conformable enclosure. Various embodiments of a thermal switch are also described.
