Abstract:

A laser marking/imaging system including a passively Q-switched microlaser having a saturable absorber which upon reaching an energy threshold emits a pulse of light through an optical output. The microlaser is electrically connected to circuitry which provides power to the microlaser, and has a simmer mode and a lasing mode. In the simmer mode, power provided to the microlaser is maintained at an energy level below the energy threshold, and in the lasing mode, power provided to the microlaser raises the energy level of the microlaser above the energy threshold. A guidance mechanism can direct the pulse of light from the optical output along a path toward an image receiving target when the microlaser is in the lasing mode.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to a novel fire extinguishing composition comprising a unique salt mixture and a method of using the novel composition combination with water to extinguish Class B and Class C fires. The fire extinguishing composition comprises an unique mixture of at least two salts, I and II: wherein I is selected from the group consisting of a bicarbonate or carbonate salt of sodium or potassium and II is selected from the group consisting of a chloride, sulfate, or tartrate salt of sodium or potassium and wherein the mixture exhibits a single minimum melting point. It has been found that the composition when applied as a combination with water provides excellent results in extinguishing class B fires, especially those involving cooking appliances using a large quantity of oil or fat, such as deep fryers.

Abstract:

The motor efficiency of a rotating X-ray tube having an anode assembly and a cathode assembly, can be greatly improved. The improved efficiency x-ray tube motor comprises a stator and rotor assembly having an air gap between the stator and rotor. The improved efficiency is achieved by reducing the air gap. The stator is operated at anode potential and electrically connected through an anode high voltage cable.

Abstract:

X-ray tube electron beam focusing utilizing a cathode having a large cavity therein in which an electron cloud is generated and which is shielded from the primary electric field between the cathode and the anode. The electron cloud flows from the cavity through a small narrow passage and into the primary electric field. An opposed spaced apart pair of electrical grids each comprising an array of individual electrode segments have selected opposed segments electronegatively biased to change the cross-section of the passing electron stream therebetween. The altered cross-section of the electron stream determines the size of the focal spot of the electron beam impacting the target anode.

Abstract:

A method for monitoring a rotor speed of an X-ray tube anode drive includes acquiring axial flux pickup data from the rotor, using the axial flux pickup data to provide a flux spectrum, and estimating the rotor speed by analyzing the flux spectrum. The step of acquiring axial flux pickup data can include situating an axial leakage flux pickup coil so as to pick up a flux signal from an X-ray tube anode drive rotor while the rotor rotates. An analog flux signal can be converted to a digital flux signal and a fast Fourier transform can be used to transform the digital flux signal into a flux spectrum. The flux spectrum can be used to estimate a drive frequency and a slip frequency and the speed can be estimated by subtracting the slip frequency from the drive frequency and dividing by the number of pole pairs of the X-ray tube anode drive.

Abstract:

An X-ray imaging system includes an X-ray tube, which is biased by a high voltage power supply connected to the tube by one or two shielded cables which have a characteristic impedance. The cables are coupled to the X-ray tube by a resistance which is substantially equal to the characteristic impedance when a single cable is used or to twice the characteristic impedance when two cables are used. During a breakdown of the X-ray tube, the resistance depresses electrical current flow between the anode and the cathode of the tube. This current is in part due to the energy stored in the cable, which is not depressed by conventional current limiting circuits in the high voltage power supply.
