Abstract:

A lead-acid battery, which achieves a low profile while allowing grids of relative maximum height to be used, comprises a container having the terminal cells located adjacent the front of the battery so as to allow ready access to the battery when located in racks or the like in service, and a cover, preferably a two-piece cover, containing the terminals, interior surfaces of the cover and top surfaces of the container being sloped upwardly in a rearward direction from the front of the battery, thereby allowing the use of relatively tall grids.

Abstract:

A battery including a rope handle which engages a handle bracket on a conventional battery container. The rope handle includes a grip and a rope, the proximal end of the rope being molded into, or otherwise secured to, the grip and a cylindrical plug molded on the distal end of the rope. The grip includes a retaining recess comprising a counterbore presenting a bearing surface, and lateral slot between the upper and lower surfaces of the grip and extending radially from the counterbore to present a substantially keyhole-shaped opening. In assembly, the distal end of the rope is advanced laterally through the slot portion of the keyhole-shaped opening until the counterbore is positioned subjacent the plug. The plug is then moved downward into the counterbore. To hide the rope ends in the preferred embodiment, a cover can be snapped in place over the top of the grip.

Abstract:

Devices and methods for centering an intravascular filter within a blood vessel are disclosed. A filter system in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may include an intravascular filter, a filter sheath adapted to contain the intravascular filter, and a centering member adapted to assume a preset shape when deployed within a blood vessel. The centering member may comprise an elongated wire having a hoop section adapted to radially expand against the inner wall of the blood vessel when deployed. In some embodiments, multiple centering members can be employed to facilitate centering of both the intravascular filter and the filter sheath within the blood vessel, if desired.

Abstract:

A memory having built-in self repair with column shifting is provided. The total single columns are divided into smaller column groups and a bad column group is repaired with a redundant column group. Each column group is multiplexed into a pair of column group bitlines, which are fed into a shift circuit for the column group and a shift circuit for an adjacent column group. The shift circuit for the column group nearest the redundant column group receives the bitlines for that column group and the redundant column group bitlines. If a bad column group is detected, then starting with the column group furthest from the redundant column group, the shift circuit for each column group before the bad column group is deactivated. The shift circuit for the bad column group and the shift circuit for each column group after the bad column group are activated. Therefore, the bad column group is shifted out of the memory and the redundant column group fills the void.

Abstract:

The present invention provides an apparatus for the supply of air for the treatment of sleep apnea. The apparatus of the present invention includes a motor and a fan unit. The motor and fan unit are enclosed in an inner case of flexible foam plastics material. The inner case is configured to contain the motor and the fan unit, and the inner case is generally biased against the motor and the fan unit. The inner case is, in turn, contained within an intermediate case made of rigid material. The intermediate case conforms to and is substantially filled by the inner case such that the inner case is generally biased against the intermediate case. Finally, the intermediate case is contained within an outer case of rigid material. The outer case surrounds the intermediate case. The outer case is generally set apart from the intermediate case so that there is a gap between the intermediate case and the outer case. The inner case, the intermediate case, and the outer case are all interconnected to form a blower housing in a manner that reduces the transmission of noise from the fan unit and from the motor to the external environment to the outer case. The apparatus may also include a humidifier in fluid communication with the volute outlet so as to impart humidity to compressed air or other gasses provided to the patient. The apparatus may include a microcontroller and may be powered by battery. The microcontroller may receive signals from a battery voltage sensor, the motor rate of rotation sensor, and a pressure sensor. The microprocessor may execute an algorithm directed to maintain a constant pressure over a range of battery voltages by regulation of the motor rate of rotation in response to the battery voltage signal and the pressure signal. The control algorithm in the microcontroller may also be arranged to adjust a duty cycle of a heater in the humidifier to adjust the level of humidification provided by the humidifier.
