  • Apparatus For Prestressing Concrete Structures Or The Like

    view source
  • US Patent:
    48011037, Jan 31, 1989
  • Filed:
    Feb 5, 1987
  • Appl. No.:
    7/011220
  • Inventors:
Bill R. Bush - West Babylon NY
    Andrew Tripp - Woodbury NY
Tadeusz J. Marchaj - Port Washington NY
  • Assignee:
Preload Concrete Structures, Inc. - Garden City NY
  • International Classification:
    B65H 5938
    B65H 8102
  • US Classification:
    242 721
  • Abstract:
Apparatus for prestressing concrete structures or the like by wrapping tensioned wire around the peripheral walls of the same includes a carriage which travels about the periphery of the structure, a device mounted on said carriage for paying off wire from a wire supply, a wire tensioning mechanism which includes at least one pair of stress wheels which the wire at least partially encircles, a tensiometer, a tensioned wire payout device which is adjustable to pay out wire at selectable heights relative to the carriage, a slip clutch linked to at least one of the stress wheels and being adjusted to slip when torque transferred from the tension in the wire is applied to the clutch and exceeds a predetermined torque value thereby allowing the tension in the wire to be controlled, and a driving motor mounted to the carriage to propel the carriage about the periphery of the structure. A monitoring system is also provided which automatically and rapidly increases or decreases the tension in the prestressed wire being applied to the concrete structure so as to keep the tension in the wire within a small tolerance of the predetermined level.
  • Diffusion Pump

    view source
  • US Patent:
    42420520, Dec 30, 1980
  • Filed:
    May 18, 1978
  • Appl. No.:
    5/907358
  • Inventors:
Tadeusz J. Marchaj - Long Island City NY
  • Assignee:
Preload Technology, Inc. - Garden City NY
  • International Classification:
    F04F 900
  • US Classification:
    417154
  • Abstract:
An improved vacuum diffusion pump is shown. The pump consists of the conventional elements of a pump body with inlet and outlet ports, a vaporizer, a vapor jet assembly such as a vapor chimney within the pump body and cooling means associated with the outer walls of the pump body. A fan is positioned between the top of the vapor chimney and the inlet port of the diffusion pump. When rotated, the fan drives oil vapors "backstreaming" from the pump body downwardly into and against the walls of the pump body. The fan may be driven by external means but preferably is driven by a turbine positioned in or near the vapor chimney and attached to either an axial shaft supported within the chimney or directly to the fan itself. The turbine is driven by the fast moving oil vapors and in turn drives the shaft. In a preferred embodiment the chimney cap is rotatable and is provided on the inner surface of the skirt thereof with turbine blades which are adapted to be driven by the motive fluid vapors as they pass through the effluent port defined by the top of the chimney and the chimney cap.
  • System For Storing Liquified Gas

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41109953, Sep 5, 1978
  • Filed:
    Apr 6, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/785108
  • Inventors:
Tadeusz J. Marchaj - Port Washington NY
  • Assignee:
Preload Technology, Inc. - Garden City NY
  • International Classification:
    F17C 1300
  • US Classification:
    62 50
  • Abstract:
A system for storing liquified gas, for example a tank to store liquified natural gas, wherein a vapor withdrawal piping system either within or outside the tank is provided to prevent the contact of expanding warm gas above a suspended insulated ceiling with the main body of liquified gas below the insulated ceiling due to pressure changes in the tank. In the proposed system a piping arrangement and vent manifold is used which includes a connection of the gas space above the suspended insulated ceiling in the storage tank with a vapor withdrawal line which is evacuating gas generated by heat influx into the main insulated body of gas stored in the tank.
