  • Abstract:
A method and a system for transporting a flow of fluid hydrocarbons containing wax and/or asphaltenes or any other precipitating solids through a treatment and transportation system including a pipeline are disclosed. The flow of fluid hydrocarbons is introduced into a reactor (), where it is mixed with another fluid flow having a temperature below a crystallization temperature for the wax and/or asphaltenes or other solids and containing particles or crystals acting as nucleating and/or growth cores for the wax and/or asphaltenes or other solids, the mixing temperature providing precipitation of the wax and/or asphaltenes or other solids from the flow of fluid hydrocarbons, and the effluent flow of hydrocarbons and particles is conveyed from the reactor () to a pipeline () for transportation.
  • Method And Apparatus For Detecting The Presence Or Absence Of Fluids In A Pipeline

  • US Patent:
    20060005610, Jan 12, 2006
  • Filed:
    Jun 16, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/153945
  • Inventors:
Taras Makogon - Houston TX, US
  • International Classification:

  • US Classification:
    073061410, 015104030, 015104061
  • Abstract:
A method and apparatus for detecting the presence or absence of an undesirable fluid, such as water, in a pipeline and for removing the undesirable fluid are disclosed. A detecting substance, for example, sugar, naphthalene or a pigmented solid is carried by a sweeping pig. The sweeping pig is inserted into the pipeline, propelled along the pipeline and recovered from the pipeline. The detecting substance is examined upon recovery of the sweeping pig to determine whether the undesirable fluid is present in the pipeline. The pipeline can be swept multiple times until examination of the detecting substance indicates that the undesirable fluid is not present in the pipeline.
