  • Well Screen With Internal Shunt Tubes, Exit Nozzles And Connectors With Manifold

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20040140089, Jul 22, 2004
  • Filed:
    Jan 21, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/347973
  • Inventors:
Terje Gunneroed - Houston TX, US
  • International Classification:
    E21B043/00
  • US Classification:
    166/228000, 166/236000
  • Abstract:
A well screen for use in fracturing and/or gravel packing completions that produces a good distribution of gravel over the entire completion interval. The screen is comprised of a base pipe and an outer surface (e.g. wire wrap). A plurality of flow paths (e.g. shunt tubes) are positioned in the annulus formed by the base pipe and the outer surface of the screen, and connected to corresponding exit nozzle chambers positioned at different levels on the screen to supply gravel slurry throughout the well annulus. Thereby providing the necessary alternate flowpaths for the slurry without significantly increasing the overall effective outside diameter of the screen. The screen includes one or more joints each connected together via a special connector that incorporates a manifold area. Thereby making for simpler installation and faster make up of the joints, and eliminating the need for any special tools to run the screens in the well.

  • US Patent:
    20050061501, Mar 24, 2005
  • Filed:
    Sep 23, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/669079
  • Inventors:
Stephen Ward - Cypress TX, US
Terje Gunneroed - The Woodlands TX, US
    Paul Vorkinn - Lillehammer, NO
  • International Classification:
    E21B043/08
  • US Classification:
    166278000, 166227000
  • Abstract:
Apparatus for gravel packing a wellbore interval with enclosed alternate flowpaths (i.e. conduits) that can provide a good distribution of gravel over the entire completion interval. The alternate flowpaths for the slurry are positioned in the annulus formed by the base pipe and the external surface of the screen, and connected to corresponding exit nozzle chambers positioned at different levels on the screen, and therefore do not significantly increase the overall effective outside diameter of the screen.
  • Well Screen Primary Tube Gravel Pack Method

  • US Patent:
    20050082060, Apr 21, 2005
  • Filed:
    Oct 21, 2003
  • Appl. No.:
    10/690306
  • Inventors:
Stephen Ward - Cypress TX, US
Terje Gunneroed - The Woodlands TX, US
    Paul Vorkinn - Lillehammer, NO
  • International Classification:
    E03B003/18
  • US Classification:
    166278000, 166227000
  • Abstract:
A method for performing a gravel pack and/or frac pack by pumping down small tubes connected to nozzle chambers installed in the well screen in an open or cased hole of an oil, gas or water well. The well employs an open-hole wellbore adjacent to a substantial portion of an unconsolidated or poorly consolidated subterranean oil or gas reservoir. A well screen is located inside the open-hole wellbore forming an annulus between the open-hole and the well screen. One or more conduits are positioned in the annulus formed by the base pipe and the outer surface of the screen, and connected to corresponding exit nozzle chambers positioned at different levels on the screen. These are the primary conduits for the solids ladened fluid to be transported to the exit nozzles attached to the well screen member that provide fluid communication between the conduit and the annulus between the open-hole and the well screen. The solids ladened fluid is pumped to and out through the exit nozzles as the fluid dehydrates the solids (gravel) are deposited on the well screen as the fluid passes through leaving the annulus packed with gravel. This method is also applicable to gravel packing and/or frac packing in a cased wellbore with perforations for fluid communication between the cased wellbore and a substantial portion of an unconsolidated or poorly consolidated oil or gas reservoir.
  • Knitted Wire Fines Discriminator

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20030173075, Sep 18, 2003
  • Filed:
    Apr 30, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/135479
  • Inventors:
Dave Morvant - Houston TX, US
Terje Gunneroed - Houston TX, US
  • International Classification:
    E21B043/00
  • US Classification:
    166/230000, 166/236000
  • Abstract:
Particularly, the knitted wire fluid/gas energy absorber and fines discriminator is designed to provide significantly, enhanced erosion resistance and durability through absorbing energy from fluid moving at elevated and erosive velocities through an energy absorbing and flexible structure, providing also a tortuous path for the fluid/gas, thereby, reducing the risk of sand production and sub terrain erosion damage to tubulars. The wire used for the knitted wire fluid/gas energy absorber and fines discriminator may be made from a range of different materials which possess the desired combination of properties required for this process, and lend themselves to knitting, may be compressed, exhibit desired mechanical strength and flex. Such materials may be: Stainless steel of various grades, metallic alloys of various kinds, (zinc, copper etc), wire made of various fibers such as Kevlar, Aramid and a range of other suitable materials.
