Abstract:
The bioinjection device has a housing including a pistol grip and an elongated barrel. A trigger is pivotally mounted to the housing. A plunger and needle are slidable between a first position in which the plunger and needle are slidably disposed in the barrel and a second position in which the plunger and needle extend from an opening in the end of the barrel. A retaining member is disposed about the opening at the end of the barrel. A spring-biased actuation mechanism connects the trigger with the plunger and needle. A membranous cartridge containing bone morphogenic protein, antibiotics, and/or other medication is loaded into the retaining member. A surgeon can inject the cartridge into a bone fracture or degenerative bone tissue during surgery to deliver the medicament directly to the affected site.

Abstract:
The skull clamp system with pressure limiting and alarm systems includes at least one and preferably multiple inwardly power driven immobilizing pins adjustably engaging the skull of a patient. The pin power drive systems includes at least one sensor capable of sensing the degree of back pressure on the pin from contact of the pin against the bone of the patient, the sensor being capable of signaling the drive system to stop when the sensor detects a preselected degree of back pressure. The sensor is also capable of signaling an alarm to warn of any reduction of pressure applied to the pins that might result from pin slippage.

Abstract:
The medical parameters notification system includes a portable device to be worn on the body by at least one adjustable connector. The portable device houses a control assembly for controlling data acquisition from a sensor cluster on the back side of the portable device and wirelessly transmits the data to an emergency response and/or monitoring station. The at least one adjustable connector is configured to insure consistent contact of the sensor cluster with the wearer's skin. A display is disposed on one side of the portable device to show select information and messages. In the event of an emergency, the medical parameters notification system automatically notifies an emergency response and/or monitoring station along with transmission of biometric data. Any false alarms can be cancelled, before transmission, by a selectively operable button on the portable device, which also serves to operate different functions of the system.
The composition is a blood clotting composition including at least one hemostatic agent and an indicator agent that adheres to the skin on or around the wound, the indicator agent being specifically identifiable to the hemostatic composition. The composition can be adapted to be applied to a wound as an emergency trauma treatment in homes, public places, trauma treatment centers, at accident locations, in the field of military combat, or any other potential site of severe trauma as a first response to reduce or stop bleeding. The composition can include at least one clotting agent, an analgesic, a bactericide (such as silver), and at least one antibiotic. An applicator device for the composition is included.

Abstract:
The magnetorheological (MAR) medical brace includes a flexible outer shell that fits around the anatomical area to be braced and a plurality of adjustable straps for securing the shell onto the anatomical area. The shell encases a MAR pack filled with magnetorheological fluid or gel. A plurality of magnets is attached to or encased in the shell to provide a magnetic field acting on the MAR pack. The interaction of the magnetic field with the MAR pack adjustably increases or decreases the stiffness of the shell depending on the strength of the magnetic field, A control mechanism is provided for selective adjustment of the magnetic field and other functions.

Abstract:
The patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) safety system includes a housing with a hollow compartment. A display and keypad are disposed on one side of the for display of monitoring data and selective commands respectively. An analgesic module and an antidote module are detachably mounted inside the compartment. A control module is disposed inside the housing. A vital signs monitor is connected to the control module to monitor a patient. In the event of abnormal readings due to, e.g., overdose or drug-related complications, the control module can automatically administer an antidote to the analgesia. The control module can also alert a nurse monitor and/or other personnel wirelessly to insure someone is notified of the potential emergency. The PCA safety system can also be provided in a separate safety module having a detachably mounted antidote module.

Abstract:
The tissue-identifying surgical instrument includes a surgical instrument having a handle and an integral probe operatively connected to the handle. The probe senses a tissue of interest to identify the type of tissue, e.g., nerve, muscle, vein or other. The interior of the handle includes a control assembly connected to a power source for operation of the tissue identification function. The control assembly displays and wirelessly transmits tissue identification data to a monitoring workstation to inform the surgeon of the type of tissue contacted by the probe.
