Power Cuts to 10 Million Loom From US Monster Storm: Energy
Connecticut Light has almost doubled its tree trimmingbudget, spending about $50 million to cut vegetation clear ofpower lines this year, up from $27 million a year earlier,Theresa Gilbert, a spokeswoman for the Berlin, Connecticut-basedutility, said in a telephone interview.
"We're dark across the whole map," said Theresa Gilbert of Connecticut Light & Power. Irene blacked out half of the utility's 1.2 million customers Sunday, making it the biggest outage in Connecticut history.
