Local Relay for Life celebrates successes, milestone

• 2006: The event outgrew Smile Middle School so it was moved to Century High School. Barry Schneider from Bismarck State College and his welding class students made a Relay Olympic Torch. Jim Braun brought the relay its first pancake breakfast. Theresa Moravec held a Fight Back Ceremony at 6 a.m. June 2, 2012: On the 20th anniversary of the Bismarck-Mandan Relay for Life, 69 teams raised more than $335,293. Lori Hoherz and Theresa Moravec started The Grand Club and Team Captain reception. Under their leadership, the relay became a Pace Setter Event with national recognition.afer received the St. George Award from the Great West Division of the American Cancer Society for her contributions to the overall mission of the American Cancer Society, including her work with Relay for Life. The Aetna Team, led by Captain Theresa Moravec, introduced the first butterfly release.
