BART's free-ride program among Bay Area's most generous
Several other transit operators offer free passes to board members, but aside from BART, that perk ends when they leave office. BART director Thomas Blalock, of Fremont, said he doesn't consider the lifetime passes for board members a bad idea.
"I thought it was a good idea at the time," said director Thomas Blalock. He said letters he received from the politically conservative district he serves south of Oakland were overwhelmingly in favor of the shut off.
