An ion implanter includes a source of a stationary, planar ion beam, a set of beamline components that steer the ion beam along a normal beam path as determined by first operating parameter values, an end station that mechanically scans the wafer across the normal beam path, and control circuitry that responds to a glitch in the ion beam during implantation pass to (1) immediately alter an operating parameter of at least one of the beamline components to a second value to direct the ion beam away from the normal beam path and thereby cease implantation at an implantation transition location on the wafer, (2) subsequently move the wafer to an implantation-resuming position in which the implantation transition location on the wafer lies directly on the normal path of the ion beam, and (3) return the operating parameter to its first value to direct the ion beam along the normal beam path and resume ion implantation at the implantation transition location on the wafer. The operating parameter may be an output voltage of an extraction power supply, or other voltages and/or currents of beamline components that affect the path of the ion beam.
In-Ear-Canal Audio Receiver And Stethoscope Having The Same
University Research Engineers & Associates, Inc. - Grantham NH
International Classification:
A61B 704
US Classification:

Abstract:
The present invention provides an in-ear-canal audio receiver (42) comprising an in-ear-canal adapter body (96) having a tapered ear plug portion (98) that is inserted into the user's ear canal. The adapter body (96) further has an opening (104) in the plug portion, an exterior annular indent (128), and an inner chamber (92) coupled to the opening of the plug portion. The inner chamber of the in-ear-canal adapter body holds a transducer assembly (92) comprising a transducer housing (54) and a transducer or speaker (56). The transducer (56) is positioned in a passage extending through the transducer housing. A torus-shaped cushion (106) is positioned in the annular indent of the in-ear-canal adapter body (96). The cushion provides comfort and establishes a good seal with the user's ear.

Abstract:
A modular auscultation sensor and telemetry system ("MASTS") for sensing body sounds of a patient in a noisy environment where both desired body sounds and undesirable noise may be detected. The MASTS includes a transducer head that comprises two sensors that are substantially acoustically and mechanically isolated from each other. The first sensor is positioned to sense body sounds of a patient when the transducer head is placed against a patient's skin, and the second sensor is positioned to sense primarily noise, if any. The sound signals are transmitted to a digital signal processor carried in a waist-pack or similar container. The digital signal processor processes the sound signals using an adaptive filter scheme to produce an output signal that is indicative of primarily of the body sounds emanating from the patient. A receiving device such as earphones, a hybrid noise reduction ("HNR") headset, an HNR helmet, a tape deck, or a computer may be plugged into the waist-pack and coupled to the digital signal processor to receive the output signals.
A printed circuit board interconnect system having flat or ribbon cable folded in a pattern and supported in that pattern so that a large number of boards in an upper rack can be connected each by a respective cable to corresponding boards among a large number of boards in a lower rack in an orderly fashion while preserving the pin orientation for the boards. The cables are each folded at the ends in right angle bends that convert the horizontal direction to vertical but reverses the conductor orientation. In a central portion of the vertical extending cable, it is folded in two further right angle bends and mid way between them with a 180 degree bend. The central bend reestablishes the conductor orientation. A multi-row comb serves to support the ribbon cable in the central region and keep one cable separate from another.

Abstract:
A disposable patient-to-transducer interface device for use in securely holding a transducer such as a stethoscope head positioned against the skin surface of a patient. The interface device may be adhered to the patient's skin surface and the stethoscope head securely received in an opening provided in the device. When in use, the interface device substantially surrounds the stethoscope head thereby providing a passive barrier to ambient noise. The interface device also develops a relatively good air seal around the stethoscope head and thus provides an additional barrier to ambient noise. Furthermore, the interface device prevents substantial movement of the transducer head and, thereby, minimizes the amount of surface motion noise generated and detected by the transducer head. In addition, when the interface device is attached to the skin surface of the patient, it establishes a good reference point whereby continual or periodic monitoring of a particular location on the patient may be accomplished.
High-Performance Electric Power Cable And Connector System
University Research Engineers & Associates, Inc. - Maynard MA
International Classification:
G02B 644
US Classification:
385107
Abstract:
A cable and connector system comprises a cable having a plurality of conductors for carrying electric current. The conductors are surrounded by a plurality of aramid fiber tension members that carry tensile loads that are applied to the cable. The conductors and tension members are wrapped with an aramid fiber armor tape. The armor tape protects the bundle from crushing loads and penetration by sharp objects. A connector is provided at each end of the cable whereby the tension members of the cable may be fixedly attached to the connector such that the tensile loads carried by the tension members are directly transmitted to the connector and are not transmitted to the conductors.

Record-low mortgage rates offer little hope for homeowners already underwater
Theyre doing fine, theyre paying their mortgages, and theyd normally be candidates to refinance at these lower rates, said Thomas Callahan, executive director of the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance. But given the negative equity situation, its restricting many of them from refinanci
Thomas Callahan, executive director of the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance, guesses that thousands of people who bought homes on the South Shore in the last five years have been blocked from taking advantage of the record-low rates because they lack the equity to qualify.
