Abstract:

A meniscal allograft with a bone block having a trapezoidal shape in cross-section and a technique for using a meniscus allograft having a trapezoidal shaped bone block are disclosed. A groove is formed initially in the bone using drill bits. Dilators are used to increase the size of the drilled groove. The orthogonal corner at the bottom of the groove is shaped using a rasp. A smooth dilator compacts the bone in the acute angle at the bottom of the groove opposite the orthogonal corner to create the final trapezoid shape of the bone groove. A meniscal allograft having a bone block of corresponding trapezoidal shape is prepared using a workstation and three cutting jigs to make three corresponding cuts. The trapezoidal bone block of the meniscal allograft is then installed within the bone groove.

Abstract:

A call routing system for use with a wireless telephone systems is disclosed. The system, which monitors the subscriber's current physical location, determines the device to which a call should be terminated, and routes the call. The device can be any IP telephone, including a cable television system adapted to IP telephony. The system routes calls without direct subscriber actions, without a second telephone number, regardless of the time of day and day of week. Various options can also apply to a call, determined by subscriber-established preferences, when specified criteria are met, or calls can be limited to/from specified telephone numbers. The system and method uses signaling techniques that will allow routing of the call, along with any authorization or restrictions, to be done remotely from the actual switching of the call. Call events are transmitted to the call routing system while the communications path of the call is held at the switching system awaiting call routing information. The identity of the subscriber is established using existing means that are used to authenticate the user. The wireless phone user does not have to enter any additional codes or identification to obtain access to the call routing system.

Abstract:

A light weight extruder (20) is suitable for high production, in-line extrusion of flowable materials with high precision in the placement and control of the extruded material. The extruder uses a high torque hydraulic motor (72) to drive a feed screw (88) in dispensing highly viscous but flowable material through an extrusion die (126) of preselected configuration. A plurality of heating bands (114-118) surrounding the barrel (86) of the extruder provide precise control over the material temperature at the point of extrusion. In an alternate embodiment, an injection nozzle (120a) is provided with a plurality of independently controllable extrusion dies (128, 130, 132). The extruder is sufficiently light and manipulable such that it can be mounted on the end of the arm of a robot (122).

Abstract:

A dispensing system for particulate matter is disclosed comprising a primary receptacle, a guide member, a sliding tube, and a valve member. The primary receptacle receives particulate material and has an open end, an opposed bottom, and a surrounding wall. The guide member is fixed to the bottom of the primary receptacle and defines a supporting aperture and an associated axis approximately normal to the bottom. The sliding tube is slidably disposed within the supporting aperture of the guide member. The sliding tube is characterized by a longitudinal feed passage therethrough substantially parallel to the axis. The sliding tube has a travel limit restricting its axial translation relative to the guide member between a first position and a second position. The valve member is mounted inside the primary receptacle over the guide member. The valve member has bristles disposed over and operably blocking the supporting aperture.

Abstract:

Devices and methods for positioning a patient's leg during a leg or knee operation by employing a novel surgical leg positioning device. The device has a low profile so that it can remain under sterile surgical drapes during an operation, and prevents the leg from moving out or up. Large, easy to access, buttons are provided to allow the surgical leg positioning device to be manipulated while under sterile surgical drapes so that it may be moved when no longer needed.
