Abstract:

An optical architecture for a high-energy laser that directs a collimated laser beam through an aperture stop at a desired angle. In one embodiment, the optical architecture includes a single tilt mirror and three stationary mirrors that direct the laser beam in one dimension. The laser beam is reflected off of the mirrors in the same plane and is reflected off of the tilt mirror three times. The first two reflections off of the tilt mirror translate the beam and the third reflection causes the beam to be directed at the desired angle. In another embodiment, the optical architecture includes a single tip-tilt mirror and eight stationary mirrors that direct the beam in two dimensions. The laser beam is reflected off of the mirrors in two planes and is reflected off of the tip-tilt mirror three times. The first two reflections off of the tip-tilt mirror translate the beam and the third reflection causes the beam to be directed at the desired angle.

Abstract:

A tool arrangement combination of an insert tool fabricated as a generally circular central body having a plurality of spokes extending from the outside peripheral edge of said central body, said spokes spaced apart to be mountable into the channels formed on the inside peripheral surface of the internal nut of a standard drain fixture. Said central body having a non-circular opening configuration to accept the insertion of a user-supplied lever, usually a common tool such as a socket wrench handle to complete the tool arrangement. The tool arrangement may be used to evenly apply torque to say internal nut to remove or tighten said internal nut of said drain fixture.

Abstract:

A duplex laser communication transceiver, and a method for its operation, in which the effective rates of data transmission on a transmit laser beam are adaptively controlled in response to detection of the instantaneous power of a receive laser beam. Variations in laser beam power caused by atmospheric turbulence are sensed in the transceiver, and effective data transmission rates are controlled appropriately to avoid or minimize data errors. Data bits input to the transceiver for transmission are stored in a data buffer; then retrieved at a rate that is varied in accordance with the instantaneous power. The transmit data rate is decreased or suspended when the laser beam power is low, and increased again when the laser beam power is high. Data signals recovered from the receive laser beam are also buffered, to obtain an output data stream at a uniform rate.

By modifying existing methods for synthesizing polyaniline, a polyaniline polymer having a new constellation of material properties has been produced. The material properties of the polymeric compositions disclosed herein enhance the use of polyanilines in a wide variety of processes that use such materials, for example processes used in the formation of filtration membranes.

Abstract:

Disclosed herein are methods of increasing the hydrophilicity of a membrane. Membranes comprising polyaniline or co-polymer thereof and one or more gel inhibiting agents are treated with one or more hydrophilicity restoration agents, thereby increasing the hydrophilicity of a membrane. Also disclosed are membranes produced by the disclosed methods.
