Abstract:
An inorganic composition prepared from colloidal silica, monoaluminum phosphate and aluminum chlorohydrate is employed as a bonding agent to bond refractory materials to a porous base fabric, such as fiberglass, to prepare fabric compositions that are flame and heat resistant and possess dielectric properties.
Apparatus And Method For Use In Casting A Plurality Of Articles
A chill plate moves the mold structure into a furnace, A baffle is supported in an open central portion of an array of article molds by a plurality of support elements. The support elements extend through spaces between the article molds into engagement with a furnace to support the baffle during withdrawal of the article molds from the furnace. In one embodiment of the invention, the support elements are engaged with the furnace by rotating the chill plate through a small arc. When the article molds have been almost completely withdrawn from the furnace, the baffle plate is disposed adjacent to the upper ends of the article molds. At this time, the chill plate is again rotated to disengage the support elements from the furnace. When this happens, the baffle drops downwardly onto the chill plate. Disengagement of the support elements from the furnace may be facilitated by forming the support elements of a relatively brittle material which will break when pressure is applied against either the baffle or the support elements by the mold structure.
A mold structure has a plurality of article molds disposed in an array with an open central space. A gating system is connected with upper ends of the article molds and a base is connected with lower ends of the article molds. A baffle plate is inserted into the open central space between the article molds. The baffle plate has an area which is greater than the area of an opening in the base. A lower side of the baffle plate overlies an area on the base which extends completely around the opening in the base. To insert the baffle plate through the opening in the base, a slit is formed in the baffle plate. A portion of the base is received in the slit and then the baffle plate is rotated to turn it through the opening in the base. An alternative method of inserting the baffle plate is by partially folding the baffle plate and inserting the folded baffle plate through the opening in the base of the mold structure. Once the folded baffle plate has been moved into the open space between the article molds, the baffle plate is unfolded.

Abstract:
An improved apparatus and method is used to cast a plurality of articles in a mold structure having a plurality of article molds disposed in an array having an open central portion. The article molds are filled with molten metal while the mold structure is supported on a chill plate. An inner baffle plate is disposed in the central portion of the array of article molds and retards the transfer of heat from the article molds to the chill plate. The inner baffle plate is supported by a support structure which extends through the chill plate. After the article molds have been filled with molten metal, the chill plate and mold structure are lowered relative to the inner baffle plate to increase the rate of heat transfer from the article molds to the chill plate through the open central portion of the array of article molds. Thereafter, the inner baffle plate and support structure are lowered with the chill plate and mold structure. An outer baffle plate extends around the outside of the mold structure and is supported by the support structure.

Abstract:
A laminated fiberglass fabric composition is prepared by laminating a non-woven fabric to a knitted or woven fiberglass fabric with a plastisol laminating adhesive. Heat compressing the assembled materials envelops the individual fiberglass yarns with the non-woven fabric producing a fabric composition which is highly resistant to damage caused by severe twisting or flexing forces applied to the fabric. The use of a flame resistant laminating adhesive imparts flame resistant to these fabric compositions.
