Abstract:

The instant invention relates to a solid state low voltage power supply controller which reduces a conventional 120 volt AC power source to 12 volt pulsating DC for the purpose of operating a single âpoint of useâ light source wherein the low voltage power supply is in proximate location to the light source. A pulse width modulator integrated circuit operating in conjunction with a field effect transistor induces energy in the secondary of a step-down transformer to provide a reduced pulsating DC current to a lamp load. A feedback voltage from the secondary winding of the stepdown transformer operates to set the gain of internal circuitry of the integrated circuitry to provide a predetermined constant pulsating DC voltage and a predetermined limited range of power wattage. A feedback voltage operates to reduce current drawn by overcurrent demands on the primary of the transformer.

Abstract:

This invention relates to a limited range low voltage testing, regulating, and indicating device comprising a detector and low voltage measurer of magnitude in a switch-regulated power supply circuit wherein indicator LEDs are operated directly from a power supply wherein continually increasing current draw provided by shunt switching operates to cause the first display LEDs to “fade” in an overlapping pattern of activation, in and out with slight voltage changes. Increased voltage causes a second LED to turn on. Further increased voltage causes the second LED to turn off and a third LED to turn on. Shunt and series connected voltage regulators selectively exert control over the LEDs.

Abstract:

A method for depositing an anti-stiction coating on a MEMS device comprises reacting the vapor of an amino-functionalized silane precursor with a silicon surface of the MEMS device in a vacuum chamber. The method can further comprise cleaning the silicon surface of the MEMS device to form a clean hydroxylated silicon surface prior to reacting the precursor vapor with the silicon surface. The amino-functionalized silane precursor comprises at least one silicon atom, at least one reactive amino (or imine) pendant, and at least one hydrophobic pendant. The amino-functionalized silane precursor is highly reactive with the silicon surface, thereby eliminating the need for a post-process anneal step and enabling the reaction to occur at low pressure. Such vapor-phase deposition of the amino-functionalized silane coating provides a uniform surface morphology and strong adhesion to the silicon surface.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatus whereby an optical interferometer is utilized to monitor and provide feedback control to an integrated energetic particle column, to create desired topographies, including the depth, shape and/or roughness of features, at a surface of a specimen. Energetic particle columns can direct energetic species including, ions, photons and/or neutral particles to a surface to create features having in-plane dimensions on the order of 1 micron, and a height or depth on the order of 1 nanometer. Energetic processes can include subtractive processes such as sputtering, ablation, focused ion beam milling and, additive processes, such as energetic beam induced chemical vapor deposition. The integration of interferometric methods with processing by energetic species offers the ability to create desired topographies at surfaces, including planar and curved shapes.

Abstract:

A method for depositing metallic lines on an IC chip or mask is described using a focused ion beam (FIB) with a much lower ion dosage than previously required, on the order of 10. sup. 14 -10. sup. 15 ions/cm. sup. 2. A substrate is scanned with the FIB to produce a series of nucleation sites on the substrate surface. These nucleation sites can be in an adlayer or can be produced by lattice damage or sputtering directly in the substrate material. The substrate is then exposed to a source gas containing the material to be deposited, while heated to a temperature slightly less than the spontaneous thermal decomposition temperature of the source gas. This results in a well-defined line of materials being deposited from the source gas along the line defined by the nucleation sites. The ratio of the spontaneous activation energy to the autocatalytic activation energy for the gases is preferably at least about an order of magnitude, and the FIB is preferably moved in multiple scans across the desired line.
