Abstract:
A process and apparatus used for heating and drying a material. The process uses supplemental radiant heat supplied by circulating thermal oil that is heated using fuels, as well as exhaust heat from other sources. The supplemental heat replaces a portion of the heat provided by the direct-firing. The supplemental heating is achieved by retrofitting existing direct-fired or radiant heat gypsum dryers with thermal oil-to-air heat exchangers in the combustion air lines and the air recirculation lines. Heated thermal oil is circulated through the exchangers, providing supplemental heat to both the combustion air and the re-circulated dryer air. The existing natural gas burners are fired to achieve the desired exit temperature. A Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system is coupled to the dryer exhaust vent to recapture heat energy produced by the thermal oil and produce electricity.
A high speed actuator for controlling the shutter in x-ray equipment so as to eliminate transition time during which the x-ray dose is wasted. The actuator includes a driving solenoid for rotating and axially displacing a shutter member so as to move a shutter aperture to an open position, a mechanical arrangement for blocking movement of the member when the shutter aperture reaches the open position, and an electro-magnetic brake, having an armature and coil, interconnected with the driving solenoid such that braking engagement between the armature and coil is effected by movement of the shutter member and aperture to the open position.
A three-dimensional display system comprising a display member on which viewing perspective changes as a function of viewing angle and a two axis remote control gimbal onto which the display is mounted to permit a user of the display to maintain contact with a control console while changing the angular view of the display.

Abstract:
Novel portable shelter apparatus including a side portion which can be detached along three of its four sides and raised to a substantially horizontal position, an extendable floor portion that can be unrolled from its normal storage position to an extended floor position underneath the raised side portion, and side wall netting operable to interconnect the raised side and extended floor portions to provide, within an insect-proof environment, a substantially increased floor space and increased user visibility.
Three-Dimensional Display System With A Feedback Control Loop Sensitive To The Instantaneous Positioning Of A Flexible Mirror Membrane
A system for accurately controlling the motion of a mirror membrane used in a three-dimensional display system. The system senses the pressure differential across the membrane mirror as a means of indirectly measuring mirror position. This pressure differential is converted into an electrical signal which is used in a closed loop feedback system to force the membrane position to follow accurately the command signal.

Abstract:
A collimator blade assembly for a computed tomographic X-ray scanner comprising a blade of X-ray beam stopping material having an aperture for passing X-rays and an X-ray penetrable member closing at least a portion of that aperture to reinforce the material and thereby minimize collimator blade/detector clearances while preventing undesirable collimator blade vibration.
