Abstract:

Methods of making coated implantable medical devices are provided. The methods include positioning a first layer comprising a bioactive on at least a portion of a structure, and positioning at least one porous layer over the first layer. The at least one porous layer has a thickness adequate to provide a controlled release of the bioactive.

Abstract:

A method and device for implantation into a curved vessel is described. The device may be a stent with a generally curved configuration in its radially expanded state. The stent may have a first series of linkages located along a first side of the stent and a second series of linkages located along a second side of the stent. Both series of linkages interconnect structural elements of the stent. During deployment of the stent into a vessel, the second series of linkages undergo longitudinal expansion sufficient to produce a stent having a longer second side than a first side. This difference in longitudinal length between the second side and first side of the stent creates a curved configuration which conforms to the curvature of the vessel which it is implanted into.

Abstract:

A coated implantable medical device includes a structure adapted for introduction into the vascular system, esophagus, trachea, colon, biliary tract, or urinary tract, and at least one layer of an immunosuppressive agent posited over at least one surface of the structure. Optionally, the device can include at least one porous, preferably polymeric layer posited over the layer of immunosuppressive agent, and can alternatively or additionally include at least one coating layer posited on one surface of the structure , the at least one layer of immunosuppressive agent being posited in turn on at least a portion of the coating layer. The porous layer and the coating layer each provide for the controlled release of the bioactive material from the device. The structure is preferably configured as a coronary stent. The polymer of the porous layer is preferably applied by vapor or plasma deposition.

Abstract:

An endoluminal prosthetic device for placement in a body lumen is formed by stitching stents to a graft. A first or anchoring stent is used for securing a graft made of biocompatible material that forms at least one lumen. There is also a second stent. The first and second stents each include a plurality of struts and apices between the struts. At least two of the apices in each of the first and second stents are secured to the graft by stitches. A running suture links at least one stitch of the first stent and one stitch of the second stent. The running suture linking the first stent and the second stent adds strength to the stitches and better secures the first stent to the device. The endoluminal prosthetic device may be used in an aortic vessel to treat stenoses or aneurysms.

Abstract:

A guidewire with a flexible tip is provided. The flexible tip comprises a portion of a coating that axially extends beyond a distal end of an elongate member of the guidewire. The length of the flexible tip can be defined in relation to a diameter of the elongate member of the guidewire. Also, the length of the flexible tip can be defined in relation to a length of a distal tip portion of the elongate member of the guidewire. The flexible tip may include agents that facilitate visualization, such as an opacifying agent in the coating and/or a radiopaque marker disposed in the flexible tip.
