Abstract:
A rigid container having a bottom and walls and a peripherally depending rigid skirt for offsetting the bottom of the container from a support surface. The skirt has one or more spaced orifices and affixed to the underside of the bottom of the container is a ratchet bar. A pawl including, a pawl escapement tooth, a pawl arm and a vertical member extending at right angles to the pawl arm, is located through the orifice of the skirt so as to be in slideable engagement with the ratchet bar. This arrangement is adapted to receive a supply package of liner bags located between the upright member and the wall of the container. The supply package is of sufficient resiliency so as to permit locking engagement of the package between the upright member and the container.

Abstract:
A wastebasket which is adapted to receive an inner liner includes a container having an upper rim defining an open end, and a lid pivotally mounted on the container and adapted to cover the open end. A bezel is provided for releasably retaining an inner liner in the container. The bezel is pivotally mounted on the container at its open end, and is pivotable between first position, when the bezel is disposed substantially co-planarly with the upper rim of the container, and a second position, where the bezel is raised at an angle above the rim of the container. The wastebasket also includes structure for pivotally mounting the bezel to the container and for retaining the bezel in the raised second position.

Abstract:
A wastebasket includes a container having an upper rim defining an open end, and a lid mounted on the container at its upper rim. The lid is positionable to cover and uncover the open end. The lid is pivotable between a closed position, where it covers the open end of the container, and an open position, where it is disposed in a substantially upright position uncovering the open end of the container. The lid and container include portions which are used for latching the lid in the upright, open position so that the lid will not fall inadvertently. The container latching portion includes a rib having an exposed corner and a recess. The lid latching portion is resiliently yieldable and includes a protrusion which is adapted to ride over the corner and snap into recess of the container rib when the lid is in the open position.

Abstract:
A wastebasket includes a container having a top opening, and a lid mounted on the container and adapted to pivot about a pivot axis to cover and uncover the top opening. A mechanism for actuating pivotal movement of the lid with respect to the container is provided. The mechanism includes a generally horizontal operating lever having a foot pedal, a depending flange joined to the lid, and a rod linkage interconnecting the operating lever and the flange. The lid flange has an elongated slot formed through its thickness. The slot includes a channel and two enlargements situated at opposite ends of the channel. The rod linkage slides through the channel into one of the two enlargements, and engages the lid flange at either enlargement to pivot the lid between positions covering and uncovering the container. The lid flange includes a ridge protruding inwardly of the slot near one of the enlargements to help guide the rod linkage into engagement with the lid flange at the top of the enlargement so that the rod linkage does not inadvertently slip from the enlargement and into the channel of the slot.

Abstract:
A wastebasket includes a container and a lid which is mounted on the container. The container is formed with an opening providing access to the container's interior. The lid is pivotable about a pivot axis to cover and at least partially uncover the container opening. The pivot axis divides the lid into a forward portion and a rearward portion which are respectively disposed on opposite forward and rearward sides of a vertical plane encompassing the pivot axis when the lid is in a position covering the container opening. The forward portion of the lid has a greater cross-sectional area than the rearward portion, and the rearward portion has a greater weight than the forward portion. The lid is pivotable between a first position, where the lid substantially covers the container opening, and a second position, where the forward portion of the lid is disposed inwardly of the container and uncovers at least a portion of the container opening.
