Abstract:
Determining the operational life of Operator Replaceable Component (ORC) devices within a printer. A replacement history of the ORC device is used to predict the future life of a newly installed ORC device. The database management system of the invention provides tracking of the remaining lifetime of the ORC devices. As the system keeps track of the remaining life of the ORC devices, the system will prompt the operator when the ORC devices need to be replaced. Once replaced, the ORC device database is updated with the life span data of the ORC device that was replaced.

Abstract:
Message logs are created on serviceable pieces of equipment and transmitted to a centralized site where they are uploaded and inserted into a centralized database. Preferably, a digital printer that maintains message logs reporting printer page counts, jobs run, errors encountered, component replacement, maintenance performed, status and diagnostic information. Reports are created from log data from the machines in the field and are accessible from a Web Server for numerous systems. The reports can predict demand on component parts to assist in maintaining adequate inventories, provide research and development teams with insight into functions and capabilities that may be advantageous to add to new machines in the future, or report information back to the individual customer as a value-added service.

Abstract:
A method to produce 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is described in which a reactant including cellulose, lignocellulose, or a combination thereof, in a reaction mixture of a polar, aprotic solvent and an acid is reacted for a time, at a temperature, and at a hydrogen ion concentration wherein at least a portion of the cellulose or lignocellulose present in the reactant is converted to HMF. The reaction mixture is initially substantially devoid of water. As the reaction proceeds, dehydration of intermediates causes the water concentration in the reaction mixture to rise to no more than about 2.0 wt % water.

Abstract:
Tunable cajón devices, including tuning and adjustment during a performance, are disclosed. In an aspect, the present disclosure provides a tunable cajón device wherein internal strings or cords under tension may be tuned via the manual manipulation of tuners accessible via a top surface of the cajón. As such, a cajón player may view tuner position and adjust the tuner from the traditional playing position. Adjustments (i.e., tuning of internal strings) may be done before, during, or after a performance.

plebiscite could readily attract many candidates. Would a four- or five-way race in which the winner got 30percent or less be better? Darin DeWitt and Thomas Schwartz argue in the current issue of the political science journal PS that a plurality winner could readily be someone detested by the majority.

Kurds in Tennessee watch Iraq hoping for new nation
The largely self-governed region has become one of the most stable in Iraq since the country's civil war after Saddam Hussein was ousted. It also has provided a place for Western development and businesses to spring up, said Thomas Schwartz, a Vanderbilt University professor of history.
Cornelius, who has been in his post since 2007, said he was told by former Illinois state historian Thomas Schwartz that William Waller instead must have gotten the hat from Lincoln during his Sept. 15, 1858, senatorial debate with Stephen Douglas in downstate Jonesboro.
