Abstract:

A thin film or coating containing an oxide of silicon or aluminum or both is deposited over lead or lead alloy battery components that will be in contact with the acid electrolyte greatly reducing the corrosion of the lead components during battery use. In one embodiment, the coating of film may be applied using a colloid of silica or alumina in a binder such as room temperature vulcanized rubber. In another embodiment, the coating of film is deposited by a direct silane polymerization of an oxidized lead surface by silicic acid forming the film. The substantial reduction of component corrosion eliminates leaking around the terminals and thereby increases the service life of the lead acid battery.

Abstract:

A multi-lumen sensing system () includes medical tubing () having a plurality of lumens (A, B) and at least one secondary passageway () extending in an axial direction of the medical tubing, wherein the secondary passageway is between the plurality of lumens. The multi-lumen sensing system may include a sensing receptacle () defining a channel () in which a lengthwise portion of the medical tubing is received. A plurality of ultrasonic transmitting elements (T, T) may be arranged within the secondary passageway of the medical tubing or as part of the sensing receptacle for transmitting respective ultrasonic signals across the lumens to a corresponding plurality of ultrasonic receiving elements (R, R) of the sensing receptacle. Alternatively, the sensing receptacle may include a plurality of ultrasonic transmitting and receiving elements () transmitting respective signals across the lumens for return reflection at an interface of the secondary passageway.
