Abstract:
A micro-electrical-mechanical system (MEMS) switch. The switch includes a compliant spring that supports a contact shuttle for movement in a lateral direction generally parallel to the substrate and biases the contact shuttle to a normally open switch state position. A plurality of moving electrodes are coupled to the contact shuttle. A plurality of fixed electrodes are interleaved with the moving electrodes. The moving electrodes and the fixed electrodes have generally planar major surfaces perpendicular to the plane of the substrate. Electrostatic forces developed between the fixed and moving electrodes cause the contact shuttle to move to a closed switch state position in response to the application of an actuation voltage. The moving direction of the moving electrodes and the contact shuttle is along a longitudinal axis parallel to the substrate and perpendicular to the planar major surfaces of the electrodes.

Abstract:
A system provides for remote monitoring using asynchronous code division multiple access (CDMA) communication techniques between a base station and one or more transponders. Each transponder is attached or otherwise associated with an object or an environment to be monitored. Upon receipt of an interrogation signal, a transponder generates and transmits a coded transponder signal containing the monitored data. The coded transponder signal is generated using a spreading code. Each transponder is associated with a unique, mutually exclusive set of spreading codes. Each spreading code is based on a unique transponder address and the monitored data to be sent. A detector asynchronously monitors received signals for any of the available spreading codes. Once the detector detects a particular spreading code, the base station can identify the source transponder and extract the monitored data.

Abstract:
A system for monitoring a physical parameter of a subject includes a sensor, a transmitter, a repeater, and a base station. The sensor is located within the body of the subject and is operable to sense a physical parameter of the subject. The transmitter is electrically connected to the sensor, and is operable to transmit a spread spectrum encoded signal using a digital spreading code, the encoded signal carrying information indicative of the sensed physical parameter and being transmitted to a local region outside the body. The repeater is located in the local region, is movable with the subject, and is operable to receive the transmitted encoded signal and retransmit it to a remote region outside the body. The base station is located in the remote region and is operable to receive and decode the retransmitted encoded signal.

Abstract:
The drone-based radio-over-fiber system provides an unmanned aerial vehicle (AV), preferably a multi-rotor drone, connected to a base station by a tether including an optical fiber. A radio frequency-over-fiber system is used for bidirectional data communications between at least one radio frequency (RF) transmitter at the base station and at least one antenna mounted on the drone through the optical fiber in the tether. The system includes wave division multiplexers/demultiplexers that permit ultrahigh bandwidth communication over the tether. An embodiment of the system for 2×2 multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) signals in the 700 MHz LTE band is described.
A mobile computing device, including: a first memory device having first computer-readable instructions tangibly recorded thereon; a first hardware processor configured to execute the first computer-readable instructions recorded on the first memory device; and an RFID component that includes a transceiver configured to receive a proximity signal from at least one RFID reader when the RFID component is within a predetermined range of the at least one RFID reader, and a second memory device configured to store the proximity signal, wherein the first hardware processor is configured to, upon executing the instructions recorded on the first memory device, control at least one operation of the mobile computing device in accordance with the proximity signal received by the transceiver of the RFID component from the at least one RFID reader.
