In a long-running clinical trial that took 10 years to complete, the combination of rifapentine (Priftin) and isoniazid (Nydrazid) was as effective in preventing active TB as nine months of daily isoniazid alone, according to Timothy Sterling, MD, of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
In the 33 months of follow-up, seven of those receiving the combination therapy developed TB, compared with 15 of those receiving isoniazid alone, co-author Dr. Timothy Sterling of Vanderbilt University reported at the American Thoracic Society International Conference in Denver.
