A wafer carrier for use in polishing disks. The wafer carrier includes a main body and an integral visual inspection wear indicator. The main body has at least one opening formed therein adapted to receive a disk. The visual inspection wear indicator provides a visual indication of when the main body has reached the end of its useful life. The inspection wear indicator may have several portions to incrementally identify the approximate wear stage, that is, the approximate remaining useful life.
Osteoconductive Integrated Spinal Cage And Method Of Making Same
The spinal cage comprises a structural component having sufficient strength to withstand the compressive loading between vertebral bodies. The structural component is integrated with an osteoconductive component to facilitate bone growth between the vertebral bodies. The structural component may comprise any of PEEK, PEKK, or other structural material. The osteoconductive component may comprise any of allograft, natural bone, tricalcium phosphate, hydroxyapatite or a blend of calcium carbonate, calcium lactate and other calcium salts. A method for making the spinal cage involves molding polymers around an osteoconductive component, heat staking, and may further include ultrasonically welding, snap fit or mechanically assembling and/or adhesively bonding components.

Abstract:
A polymeric composition containing internal lubricants is suitable for low friction applications. The composition contains from about 65 to about 85 weight percent of a polymeric blend and from about 15 to about 35 weight percent of internal lubricants, wherein said blend consists essentially of from about 35 to about 100 weight percent of polybenzimidazole and from about 0 to about 65 weight percent of poly(aryletherketone), and said lubricants consist essentially of graphite and boron nitride in a weight ratio of about 1:10 to about 10:1, respectively. The composition is useful for preparing shaped articles such as bearings, bearing sleeves, rings, etc.

Abstract:
A compactible polybenzimidazole composition contains from about 95 to about 5 weight percent of solid lubricant particles which are uniformly dispersed and encapsulated in from about 55 to about 95 weight percent of polybenzimidazole. The solid lubricant comprises graphite and boron nitride in a weight ratio of about 10:1 to about 1:10. The composition is useful for preparing self lubricating, shaped articles such as bearings, bearing sleeves, rings, seals, etc. which exhibit low friction properties.

Abstract:
A process for heat treating polymeric compositions into a shaped article comprising the steps of: a. placing a polymeric composition into a molding means; b. adding a compactible material to the molding means to surround the polymeric composition; c. pressuring the molding means containing the polymeric composition to force its particles into intimate contact with the compactible material, and clamping the molding means so as to maintain the pressurized state; d. heat treating the pressurized molding means containing the polymeric composition to form a densified, shaped article; and e. releasing the pressure on the molding means and removing the heat treated, shaped article.
