Health officials: Two Idahoans have died from influenza

"(Last summer), the fraud unit was looking at the records and then there were communications with Seasons of Hope" said Tom Shanahan, Public Information Manager with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. "Then in January, we had two analysts sit down with Heath Sommer and go over everything, mepartment believed that over $400,000 of fraud had occurred at the company between June of 2010 and January of this year. Sommer told KPVI News 6 this week that he felt the investigation was secretive and unfair. But Tom Shanahan says his department stands by all of the accusations and the actions taken.
"You don't want the noncustodial parent to go out and be living on the streets. You're not going to collect anything at that point," says Tom Shanahan, spokesman for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
Tom Shanahan, an agency spokesman, said Tuesday the waivers allow his agency to continue several programs that had little to do with the federal health care reforms, but were included in the funding that passed along with that bill when President Barack Obama signed it in March 2010.
"That's a rough estimate," said Health and Welfare spokesman Tom Shanahan. "It may be more, it may be less. Some of them (the providers) are not billing anymore. We believe some of them have gone out of business."
