Abstract:

Reciprocal data storage protection is combined with “N+1” hardware provisioning and on-demand resynchronization to guarantee full data availability without impairing performance. Pairs of nodes are identified that act as backups for each other, where each node stores a secondary copy of data allocated to its reciprocal, paired node. A single extra node is brought online to take over the role of a failed node and assumes the role of the primary node it replaced.

Abstract:

An improved backup storage system and method for use in conjunction with hierarchical or mass storage servers and networks is disclosed. Baseline, full and incremental backup procedures are used to save file copies. In one preferred embodiment, the baseline backup procedure is used to store copies of stable files, i. e. files that are modified less frequently, if at all. With a hierarchical storage server, such files are typically those stored on tertiary storage media, e. g. erasable optical disks, WORMs or magnetic tape. The full backup procedure stores, as full backup copies, copies of all files not in the baseline backup and files that have been changed since the time of their baseline backup. The full backup procedure also stores file identifiers and signal representative of storage locations of baseline backup copies for files which have not been changed since the time of the baseline backup. The incremental backup procedure stores, as incremental backup copies, copies of files not in the baseline or full backups, e. g.

Abstract:

Systems and methods for creating a live copy of a data object from a production system for use by third party applications. The systems and methods include receiving at least one request for a copy of production data from an application; creating a live backup copy; creating a flash copy of the live backup copy, and a flash copy bitmap; creating a modified version of the live backup copy by changing a subset of data in the live backup copy; recording the changed subset of data using the flash copy bitmap; mounting, the modified version of the live backup copy to the application; and transforming the modified version of the live backup copy back to the live backup copy when unmounting the modified version of the live backup copy of the production data from the application by applying changes associated with the flash copy bitmap to the live backup copy.

Abstract:

Systems and methods of enabling a service level agreement to specify interactions between an application and a remotely located object store that manages data as objects. A computing device receives data associated with a request to write application data to an object store according to a schedule, wherein the data is file system data. The computing device creates a snapshot associated with the requested application at a snapshot pool, and transmits instructions to a cloud formatting engine to create a virtual disk at a storage pool associated with an object store. The computing device copies the snapshot from the snapshot pool to the virtual disk, the snapshot comprising file system data and transmits instructions to the cloud formatting engine to convert the data associated with the first snapshot into an object, and move the object from the virtual disk to the object store.

Techniques are disclosed for creating, in a network, a single instance of deduplicated data across a plurality of end user data. A first computing device receives data associated with a plurality of computing devices, the plurality of computing devices being managed by the first computing device. The first computing device aggregates and deduplicates the data associated with each of the plurality of computing devices. Abstract:

Techniques are disclosed for remotely backing up data associated with a plurality of storage environments. A first computing device receives a storage type associated with a second computing device managed by the first computing device. Storage parameters are configured based on the storage type to customize a backup process for the second computing device based on the storage type. Data associated with the second computing device is protected using the storage parameters, wherein protecting data associated with the second computing device further includes copying at a first point in time a full copy of data associated with the second computing device, and copying changes to the data associated with the second computing device at a set of points in time later than the first point in time, the set of points in time being based on an end-user policy.

Abstract:

Techniques are disclosed for providing content data storage services to a remote device over the internet to enable access of the remote device in the cloud. A content data storage device receives data indicative of a subscription to content data storage services from a remote device. The content data storage device provisions cloud storage to provide the content data storage services subscribed to by the remote device. Data associated with the remote device is replicated to the provisioned cloud storage to provide a replicated device in the cloud. Data indicative of a request to use the replicated device in the cloud is received. The content data storage device executes the replicated device in the cloud, thereby providing access of the remote device in the cloud for the remote device.
