A process of manufacturing a coated fertilizer comprising: providing at least partially coated fertilizer granules having an at least partial coating comprising a polymer and a wax; and conditioning the at least partially coated fertilizer granules at a temperature of 40 to 130 C. for a time of 1 minute to 4 hours, to form a coating comprising interpenetrating domains comprising polymer domains and wax domains.

Abstract:

Methods, systems, and apparatuses for coating a fertilizer material by contacting the material with a coating material and a solvent are disclosed herein. The coated material can be obtained by mechanically agitating the fertilizer material while contacting the fertilizer material with a coating material and a solvent. The coating material can be sprayed onto the fertilizer material during mechanical agitation. The coating process and apparatus can use a paddle mixer and can be configured to handle organic solvents used to carry the coating material.
