Abstract:

Matched semiconductor junctions on a single integrated circuit chip are connected in a current mirror arrangement to provide a low power AC level detector arrangement using only one resistor. Two transistors are identical except for junction area and each is in series with a constant current source. Since all other physical characteristics are identical, when identical voltages are applied, the junction currents are related by the ratio of their areas. By fabricating the area of the second emitter-base junction to be less than the area of the first, a portion of the current from the second current source is diverted therefrom to the base of a third transistor, forcing the latter into saturation. Accordingly, when an AC input signal of at least threshold level is coupled to the base of the second transistor, the current in the second transistor is driven to the level of its source. The current formerly diverted to the third transistor now drops to zero and the voltage across the third transistor rises immediately to its supply voltage.

Abstract:

A paging receiver includes a nonvolatile memory which is readable for controlling the operation of the paging device and is capable of being partitioned into a plurality of regions. A protect means is also included for allowing modification to a selected region of the nonvolatile memory in response to an unlock signal. In a first embodiment, the unlock signal is externally applied to the paging receiver. In a second embodiment, the unlock signal is generated when a predetermined coded signal stored in the paging receiver matches a received coded signal. In a third embodiment, the protect means further includes a switch means to permit the selected region of memory to be modified while preventing other regions of memory to be modified.

Abstract:

An inductorless quadrature demodulator for frequency modulated signals is disclosed. A limited FM signal is passed through an active filter (26) and a phase shift network (30) to produce a quadrature signal. The limited FM signal is compared with the quadrature signal in an EXCLUSIVE OR gate (24) and then low pass filtered (36) to obtain recovered audio. The active filter (26) includes a transconductance amplifier (60) whose center frequency can be adjusted by appropriate adjustment of the amplifier's bias current. The bias current is temperature compensated to allow operation of the demodulator over a wide temperature range.

Abstract:

This on/off power detector includes an input connected directly to a power source and input connected to the power source through a switch. The detector compares voltages on the two inputs to produce an output signal when the voltage on the switched input drops a predetermined amount below the voltage on the unswitched input, which is indicative of the switch being open. The detector is strobed on and off and only compares the input voltages to provide the output signal when it is in its strobed on condition.

A power supply circuit includes a battery power source connected by a switch to the input of a DC to DC converter. The output of the DC to DC converter is connected to a filter capacitor and a load. A crow-bar is connected to the input and the output of the DC to DC converter.
