Abstract:

A paging receiver includes a nonvolatile memory which is readable for controlling the operation of the paging device and is capable of being partitioned into a plurality of regions. A protect means is also included for allowing modification to a selected region of the nonvolatile memory in response to an unlock signal. In a first embodiment, the unlock signal is externally applied to the paging receiver. In a second embodiment, the unlock signal is generated when a predetermined coded signal stored in the paging receiver matches a received coded signal. In a third embodiment, the protect means further includes a switch means to permit the selected region of memory to be modified while preventing other regions of memory to be modified.

Abstract:

This on/off power detector includes an input connected directly to a power source and input connected to the power source through a switch. The detector compares voltages on the two inputs to produce an output signal when the voltage on the switched input drops a predetermined amount below the voltage on the unswitched input, which is indicative of the switch being open. The detector is strobed on and off and only compares the input voltages to provide the output signal when it is in its strobed on condition.

Abstract:

A communication receiver is disclosed which can decode signals transmitted by radio frequency propagation. A programmable controller uses instructions in a non-volatile reprogrammable memory to decode and process the signals, and to output the information contained in the signals in a useable form. The controller also responds to predetermined signals by decoding and processing information for new decoding and operating instructions, and stores the data in a temporary memory. Logic circuitry responds to subsequent predetermined signals to enable selective reprogramming of the non-volatile reprogrammable memory by data stored in the temporary memory to alter the decoding characteristics of the receiver.

Abstract:

A device and method are disclosed for saving stored messages in a digital stored voice paging receiver. The digital stored voice paging receiver includes a plurality of message slots, each slot capable of storing a digitized voice message. A status value associated with a message slot is representative of the status of the message in the slot. A first embodiment of the method stores messages in the message slots by chronologically replacing older messages. A second embodiment of the method orders the stored messages in a predetermined priority. A stored message is replaced by an incoming message when the incoming message priority status is greater than the stored message priority status.

A method of selecting an alert pattern for a pager receiver including calling the pager terminal on a telephone, providing a unit ID, a pattern select coded signal and identifying a new alert pattern.
