Abstract:
The present application is directed to implants for positioned between vertebral members. The implant may include a superior surface to contact against a first vertebral member, and an inferior surface to contact against a second vertebral member. The implant includes a fixation mechanism that is operable to extend a portion of the fixation mechanism into the vertebral members immediately above and below the implanted implant to affix the implant within the vertebral space between such vertebral members. The implant is substantially open in the superior and inferior directions to allow for the introduction of bone growth material within the interior of the implant to help promote fusion between the vertebral members.

Abstract:
Systems, methods and devices for providing stabilization between first and second vertebrae are provided. More particularly, in one form a system includes an implant configured to be positioned in a disc space between the first and second vertebrae and a freestanding plate for engagement with extradiscal surfaces of the first and second vertebrae. The system also includes an insertion instrument with an engaging portion configured to releasably engage with the implant and the plate such that the implant and plate can be positioned together relative to the first and second vertebrae. In one aspect, an angular orientation of the implant relative to the plate is adjustable when the implant and the plate are engaged by the instrument. In this or another aspect, the implant and plate are held in a contiguous relationship when engaged by the instrument. However, different forms and applications are also envisioned.

Methods and devices for spacing vertebral members using modular intervertebral devices and insertion tools. The devices may include opposing first and second endplates, and an intermediate member configured to fit between and support the endplates. The insertion tool may include an elongated handle and a distracter. A method of inserting the device using the tool may include inserting the endplates positioned on opposing sides of the handle into the intervertebral space and positioning the endplates in the intervertebral space relative to first and second vertebral members. The method may include deploying the distracter and increasing a distance between the endplates. Another step may include inserting the intermediate member into the intervertebral space and between the endplates and supporting the endplates with the intermediate member. The insertion tool may then be removed from the intervertebral space.

Abstract:
An implant assembly for a spinal column includes at least a plate and an interbody implant attached to the plate. The interbody implant is positioned in the spinal disc space and the plate extends extradiscally for attachment to the first and second vertebrae outside the disc space. The assembly may include recesses in the bottom surface of the plate, spacers, and spacing portions extending from the bottom surface of the plate that allow the plate to be secured to the interbody implant when the trailing end of the interbody implant is positioned in a recessed, flush or overhanging position relative to the laterally facing surfaces of the vertebrae.

Abstract:
The present application is directed to an implant maintained within the patient by a fastener. The implant includes an aperture sized to receive the fastener. A locking member extends across the aperture in a first position. The locking member is constructed of a resilient material that is movable to a second position during insertion of the fastener. Once the fastener is inserted within the aperture below a level of the locking member, the locking member rebounds towards the first position and extends over the fastener. The locking member prevents the fastener from backing out of the implant.

Abstract:
An intervertebral implant comprises a first component and a second component. The second component includes an actuator and a third component comprises a first ramp and a second ramp axially spaced apart from the first ramp. The third component comprises rails including at least a portion of the ramps. At least one of the ramp portions disposed with the first rail has a first height and at least one of the ramp portions disposed with the second rail has a second height. The first height is greater than the second height. The actuator is engageable with the third component to effect axial translation such that the ramps engage at least one of the components between a first configuration and a second configuration. Methods of use are disclosed.
A sleeve for use in inhibiting leakage of bone cement during a vertebroplasty procedure. The sleeve includes a hollow main body portion and a plunger-like shield disposed at the distal end of the main body portion. The main body portion is sized to be fitted over the cannula of a conventional vertebroplasty assembly through which the cement is injected, and the shield is sized to cover the injection hole in the vertebra, thereby inhibiting leakage of injected cement back through the injection hole.

Abstract:
A multi-functional surgical instrument assembly for installing an implant between adjacent bone structures is disclosed that is capable of distracting adjacent bone structures, generating a measurement for a prosthetic implant, and installing the prosthetic implant without being removed from the patient. The surgical instrument includes a frame having a pair of opposing distracter arms movable toward or away from one another to a predetermined setting indicative of a height requirement of the implant. A pair of opposing spreader support segments is connected with a respective distal end of the distracter arms and extend downwardly a predetermined distance in relation to the distracter arms. A pair of opposing implant guide segments is connected with a distal end of the opposing spreader support segments. An inserter is detachably connected with the prosthetic implant, wherein the prosthetic implant is positioned between the opposing implant guide segments using the inserter.
