Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a transaction network that facilitates and simplifies purchase transactions between any number of customers and any number of merchants. The transaction network is primarily utilized in the sale and purchase of digital content via a network such as the Internet. The transaction network registers and authenticates customer purchase activities and maintains customer account data including payment information. Once registered, a customer will generally not register again for further purchase activities at participating merchant sites. Additionally, the transaction network provides a single, central authentication mechanism for all participating merchant sites using a single customer identifier and password. Further, the transaction network accumulates purchase information across all of the merchant sites and the ultimate payment processing of those purchase transactions. Payment processing generally occurs on a periodic basis, enabling the accumulation of multiple purchase transactions within a participating customers account.

The drive system drives a brushhead at a driving frequency. The drive system includes a frequency modulation system which changes. the driving frequency about a center frequency in such a manner, with selected frequency deviation and modulation frequency, which interacts with the resonance of the brushhead to produce a change of amplitude in the movement of the brushhead within a range of 5-30%.

Abstract:

The system includes a reservoir for fluid; a droplet generator for creating a stream of fluid droplets from the fluid wherein the velocity of the stream of droplets is within a range of 20 meters per second to 200 meters per second and the size of the droplets is within a range of 5 microns to 200 microns. Abstract:

An oral care system using a stream of fluid droplets for cleaning teeth includes a hand-held portable oral care device having a handle portion with a nozzle at a forward end thereof, a source of dental fluid and a source of pressurized gas, between 10-30 bar, both located in the handle portion. The system also includes a base unit which includes a reservoir tank for pressurized air, a reservoir tank for fluid, and a compressor connected to the gas reservoir. The handle includes valves for controlling the release of pressurized gas and fluid from the handle to the nozzle. Connecting ducts are arranged from the fluid and pressurized gas source to the nozzle such as to accelerate the pressurized gas droplets from the nozzle to a desired velocity.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for detecting oscillatory phenomena indicative of airflow separation or sensor common mode oscillatory failure is disclosed. The oscillations of a differential pressure transducer that senses the pressure difference on the opposite sides of an airfoil are bandpass filtered to remove oscillations lying outside of a band of interest. Oscillation peaks lying within the passband that exceed a positive or negative threshold produce pulses that are counted. The counter value is decremented each time an alternating peak is not detected within one-half cycle of a minimum frequency. If the allowable count threshold is exceeded, a latch is set. Setting the latch produces a command that can be used to inhibit the operation of systems that rely on data produced by the differential pressure transducer. An alternative path senses the position of a control element (e. g. , rudder pedal position) and sets the latch if the control element position reaches an extreme value likely to produce an oscillation condition at the pressure differential transducer.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for reducing the unwanted sideways motion of an airplane by reducing the lateral side loads and upsets caused by atmospheric turbulence and gusts is disclosed. A rudder modification command that causes the rudder command of the airplane to be changed in a manner that relieves the net force across the vertical stabilizer of the airplane caused by atmospheric turbulence and gusts is produced. More specifically, the pressure differential across opposite sides of the vertical stabilizer is measured and used to produce a rudder deflection value that is roll rate and yaw rate compensated. The compensated deflection value is high-pass filtered with a corner frequency that is twenty-five percent (25%) of the Dutch roll frequency of the airplane. The result is a first rudder deflection value that is subtractively combined with a second rudder deflection value. The second rudder deflection value is derived by gain adjusting and low-pass filtering the inertial sideslip angle rate value produced by the airplane's yaw damper.

Abstract:

A prosthetic support pylon is disclosed that is comprised of a tubular inner member being deformable along its longitudinal axis and comprised of a material having a composite stiffness value of between about 30,000 pounds. multidot. inch. sup. 2 and about 200,000 pounds. multidot. inch. sup. 2 and a tubular outer member over the tubular inner portion. The tubular outer member is comprised of a dampening material which slows the release of the energy produced by the tubular inner member upon return from deformation along its longitudinal axis. The material of the tubular inner member is comprised of a support matrix and of stiffening fibers which are most preferably selected from a group consisting of carbon, graphite, fiberglass, ultra high molecular weight polyethylene and aramid. The support matrix of the tubular inner member is most preferably selected from the group consisting of epoxy, vinyl ester and polyester. The tubular outer member is comprised of a thermoplastic material most preferably selected from a group consisting of polyamide, acetal, aromatic polyester, and polysulfone.
