Abstract:
Combination radiation delivery and chemotherapy devices comprise bioabsorbable structures with radionuclides and chemotherapeutic agents immobilized on said structures. The bioabsorbable structures have a predefined persistence period which is usually substantially greater than the half-life of the radionuclides, thus assuring that the radionuclides remain localized and sequestered at a desired target site while significant radioactivity remains. The radiation delivery and chemotherapy devices are suitable for a wide variety of medical purposes, being particularly suitable for the treatment of solid tumors by injection or open surgical introduction of the devices at a target site. Kits comprising the devices together with instructions for use are also provided.

Abstract:
A biomaterial for treating or preventing congestive heart failure is injected into the intrapericardial space of a patient's heart to apply a mild compressive force on the heart. A volume of biomaterial is placed in the intrapericardial space by an injection needle or catheter, adjacent at least the left ventricle, so that the biomaterial applies a compressive force on the myocardium to relieve cardiac wall tension during at least a portion of the cardiac cycle.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method of preparing a cardiac harness for use in controllably delivering a medicament such as an mTOR inhibitor or aldosterone blockade from the surface of the cardiac harness to the epicardium of a patient's heart for the site-specific treatment of cardiac and non-cardiac maladies. The delivery of the medicament from the cardiac harness is achieved by: coating the medicament on the surface of the cardiac harness; coating the cardiac harness with a polymer material or dielectric material and impregnating the coating with the medicament; or by loading the medicament into an implant attached to the cardiac harness.

Abstract:
A method of treating a neurological condition in a patient, the method including the step of applying an electrical stimulation from conductors to the patient's head at a stimulation application site. In some embodiments, the electrical stimulation includes a composite electrical signal further comprising at least one signal form configured to provide long-term treatment of the neurological condition and at least one signal form configured to provide analgesia for short-term pain relief. The invention also provides an electrical stimulation apparatus having an electrical signal generator adapted to provide an electrical signal form configured to provide long-term treatment of a neurological condition and to provide an electrical signal form configured to provide analgesia for short-term pain relief.
