Working in cooperation with the Tribute WTC Visitor Center, the students receive visits from 9/11 survivors and family members, who relate their experiences and invite discussion. In their English and Visual Art classes the students write poetry and essays based on their knowledge of September 11. They study art works such as Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel frescoes and paint interpretations of them as part of the Memorial. The students who volunteer their time beyond class do not receive any extra credit or special consideration of any kind. Over the six years they have worked, these extraordinary New York kids have transformed their building into something more like an art museum than an intermediate school.
