Abstract:

An altitude simulation system is disclosed for simulating an altitude within an enclosure or mask, wherein various improvements are provided, including: (a) a more effective use hypoxpic air generated by the system via recirculating techniques and improvements in air leakage, (b) improvements in determining when a simulated altitude is reached, (c) improvements in controlling hypoxic air generators so that peak electrical power loads are reduced and there are enhanced failsafe features for protecting the health of users, (d) using a pulse oximetry device for measuring oxygen saturation in a user's blood to thereby vary the oxygen content in the air provided to the user.

Abstract:

A process for the biological oxidation of sulfide in sulfide-containing ore. Preferably, the ore is then subjected to cyanide leaching. The resulting leach tail solution can be subjected to cyanide precipitation, employing ferric sulfate which is generated during the biological oxidation step of the process. Furthermore, a process for efficiently aerating the ore slurry during the biological oxidation step is provided.

A cylindrical tank (12) is formed from stainless steel plates. Proximate an open top end (17) of the tank (12) are four evenly spaced mixing assemblies (20). An intake pipe (22) is positioned with an open end (38) below the surface of a biological conversion medium (16) to allow a pump (28) to draw the medium (16) into a receiving box (24). A downcomer (26) merges with the receiving box (24) in order to allow the medium (16) to be injected with a biological conversion component such as air through an inlet pipe (34). The medium (16) and the injected component then pass through a static in-line mixer (30) which thoroughly mixes the medium (16) with the component and creates a multitude of finely-divided air bubbles for circulation and feeding of the medium (16) throughout the tank (12).

Abstract:

A surgical probe includes a connection hub, an antenna assembly, and an outer jacket. The antenna assembly is coupled to the connection hub, extends distally from the connection hub, and includes a radiating portion coupled thereto at the distal end thereof. The radiating portion is configured to deliver energy to tissue to treat tissue. The outer jacket is coupled to the connection hub, extends distally therefrom, and is disposed about the radiating portion. The outer jacket includes a distal end member configured to be spaced-apart from the radiating portion a target axial distance. One or more of the couplings between the antenna assembly and the connection hub, the radiating portion and the antenna assembly, and the outer jacket and the connection hub defines a flexible configuration permitting axial movement therebetween to maintain the target axial distance between the radiating portion and the distal end member.

A surgical instrument includes a reusable component and a limited-use component. The reusable component includes a first electrical contact. The limited-use component is releasably engagable with the reusable component. The limited-use component includes a second electrical contact configured to electrically couple to the first electrical contact to establish electrical communication between the reusable component and the limited-use component. Abstract:

The ablation systems, ablation probes, and corresponding methods according to the present disclosure reduce or eliminate energy radiating from an ablation probe into the environment. Some ablation probes include a retractable sheath that shields at least the radiating portion of the ablation probe. The retractable sheath and/or the ablation probe may include conduits through which a fluid may flow to shield the radiating portion and to drive the retractable sheath to an extended state. Other ablation probes include apertures defined in the probe walls through which the fluid can flow to expand a balloon surrounding the radiating portion. Yet other ablation probes include a thermal indicator to indicate the temperature of the ablation probe to a user. The ablation systems include fluid circuits and associated mechanical controls for varying the contents and/or flow rate of the fluid provided to the radiating portion of the ablation probe.
