Abstract:
A photopolymerization method is disclosed for attaching a chemical microsensor film to an oxide surface including the steps of pretreating the oxide surface to form a functionalized surface, coating the functionalized surface with a prepolymer solution, and polymerizing the prepolymer solution with ultraviolet light to form the chemical microsensor film. The method also allows the formation of molecular imprinted films by photopolymerization. Formation of multilayer sensing films and patterned films is allowed by the use of photomasking techniques to allow patterning of multiple regions of a selected sensing film, or creating a sensor surface containing several films designed to detect different compounds.

Abstract:
An article of manufacture is provided including a substrate having an oxide surface layer and a layer of a cyclodextrin derivative chemically bonded to said substrate, said layer of a cyclodextrin derivative adapted for the inclusion of selected compounds, e. g. , nitro-containing organic compounds, therewith. Such an article can be a chemical microsensor capable of detecting a resultant mass change from inclusion of the nitro-containing organic compound.

Abstract:
The design and synthesis of a family of calix[4]arene-based nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores are discussed. The calixarene chromophores are macrocyclic compounds consisting of four simple D-. pi. -A units bridged by methylene groups. These molecules were synthesized such that four D-. pi. -A units of the calix[4]arene were aligned along the same direction with the calixarene in a cone conformation. These nonlinear optical super-chromophores were subsequently fabricated into covalently bound self-assembled monolayers on the surfaces of fused silica and silicon. Spectroscopic second harmonic generation (SHG) measurements were carried out to determine the absolute value of the dominant element of the second-order nonlinear susceptibility, d. sub. 33, and the average molecular alignment,. PSI. A value of d. sub.

Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed techniques for bootstrap management. A method includes: upon an initial launch of an application on a client device, fetching, from a server and using a native component of the application, content for loading a web component of the application on the client device; determining whether a bootstrap management mode is enabled on the client device; and responsive to the bootstrap management mode is enabled and in response to the web component being launched: receiving, at the native component and from the web component, a manifest and a request for bootstrapping resources; caching, by the native component, the manifest from the web component; fetching, from the server and using the native component, the bootstrapping resources requested by the web component; caching, by the native component, the fetched bootstrapping resources in the memory; and providing, by the native component, the fetched bootstrapping resources to the web component.
