Abstract:

An apparatus for forming an egg roll. A sheet of dough is placed on a conveyor belt, with a corner of the dough pointed in the direction of movement of the belt. An egg roll filling is placed on the dough with the filling extending transversely to the direction of movement of the conveyor belt. The leading corner of the dough is reversely folded over and around the upper surface of the filling by a deflector. The dough is creased along its length of movement on both sides immediately outwardly of the ends of the egg roll by O-ring belts guided about pulleys. The opposite corners of the dough, which extend transversely to the direction of movement of the conveyor belt, are folded about the creases inwardly over the filling and the opposite corners of the dough are pressed downwardly toward each other by belts which gradually bend from a horizontal support surface to an inwardly inclined belt surface. The corners of the dough are pressed to their final positions by disks. The folded dough is creased rearwardly of the filling in a transverse direction by a paddle wheel which also tightens the previously made folds of the dough and the egg roll and its filling are rolled in the direction opposite to their direction of movement on the conveyor belt by an overhead conveyor belt to form the side and trailing corners of the dough into the cylindrical egg roll shape.

Abstract:

An apparatus for mechanically removing a thin sheet of material, such as food dough, from a stack of such sheets and depositing the sheet on a moving conveyor in a desired orientation so that a food filling may be automatically placed on the sheet of material. The apparatus picks up the thin sheet with suction nozzles, carries the thin sheet to the conveyor where pressurized air is delivered to the nozzles to release the thin sheet from the suction nozzles. A combined hydraulic-pneumatic lifting mechanism is provided to incrementally lift the stack of thin sheets to the pick-off apparatus.

Abstract:

A machine is disclosed for forming food items, such as cookies, into a fortune cookie shape with a paper fortune therein. The machine includes a device for feeding a succession of disc shaped blank food items to a moving track. A roller both advances the blank and forms grooves in the blank at desired creasing lines thereof. A descending arm bearing a fortune slip then folds the blank into a generally half-moon shape by pressing it downward through a slit opening and releasing the fortune slip therein. A pair of worm gears, cylinders with mirror image helical grooves therein, are mounted adjacent to one another and turn in opposite directions. At one end of each cylinder finger-like elements project outward and revolve into simultaneous contact with the points of the half-moon folded blank and serve to both fold them about a thin transverse bar and to deliver opposite sides of the now fortune cookie shaped item into the grooves of the cylinders. These advance the item off of the bar and along the cylinders. A blower aids in cooling and hardening the items as they travel so that they leave the cylinder via a shoot in a hardened finished state.

Abstract:

An apparatus for forming filled dough products. The apparatus includes a first belt conveyor and a second belt conveyor located below and at the end of the first belt conveyor. A first air jet stream is discharged through a thin rectangular orifice against the underside of a sheet of dough carrying a cylindrical filling as the sheet of dough leaves the first belt conveyor to support the leading edge of the sheet of dough. A deflector engages the leading edge of the sheet of dough to bend the corner thereof upwardly. A second air jet stream discharges through a thin rectangular orifice against the sheet of dough to reversely fold the leading corner of the sheet of dough against the cylindrical filling and also bends the trailing edge of this sheet of dough onto the second conveyor belt after the sheet of dough and the filling have dropped to the second belt conveyor. Rollers crease the sheet of dough outwardly of the cylindrical filling. A third air jet stream discharges through perforations positioned on opposite sides of the second belt conveyor to lift the opposite corners of the sheet of dough about the creases and to fold the corners inwardly over the filling.

Abstract:

An apparatus for forming viscous flowable material, such as meat and food, into specific shapes such as meatballs and cylindrical fillings for egg rolls. The apparatus includes a container having side walls and a curved pressure plate positioned between the side walls. A rotor is located between the side walls and it has a rim facing the curved, adjustable pressure plate so that the rim and the pressure plate converge in the direction of rotation of the rotor to define a flow channel of decreasing volume for the viscous flowable material. A motor is provided to rotate the rotor in the direction of convergence with the adjustable pressure plate. Scrapers are carried by the rotor to force the viscous material flow into the channel toward the convergence of the rotor and the pressure plate to compress the viscous flowable material. A mold cavity is provided located relative to the rotor rim and the pressure plate to receive the viscous flowable material from the flow channel. This mold cavity can either be carried in the rim of the rotor or it can be located in the pressure plate near the convergence of the pressure plate and the rotor.
