An apparatus and method for displaying large format images, graphics, and videos. The apparatus comprise a layer of column oriented optical fibers, each fiber is illuminated at one end by at least one laser diode, and a second layer which sits in front of the first layer and is parallel to the first layer, whose projected area substantially overlap that of the first layer. The second layer comprises a plurality of optical fibers arranged in rows. In between the first and second layer sits a third layer of optical switching elements. Alternatively, the second layer can be a light diffusing layer. Laser lights emitted from the laser diodes travel in parallel along respective column fiber until they are redirected by optical switching elements which couple the laser lights within the column fibers to the row fibers or to the difflusing layer directly whereby they are scattered by the diffusing elements to reach the viewing audience. The small size of the fibers results in very small fill factor, allowing light absorbing matrix and backing layer to absorb ambient light effectively. The contrast ratio under ambient light condition is further enhanced by the use of multilayer dielectric optical filter to preferentially absorb ambient light.

Abstract:
A method and system that enables users to generate and manage forecasts through an integrated software tool. Forecast administrators are enabled to create forecast series data that define a forecast's structure and provide search criteria that is used in generating forecasts. These data also define who may participate in creating forecasts, and their relative position in an organization's hierarchy. Users are also enabled to enter a variety of forecast data that are stored by the system. Various forecast data are then retrieved corresponding to the user, applicable subordinates, and parameters defined by the forecast series. Users may then fine-tune their forecasts and submit their forecasts to their managers. The managers are enabled to adjust and roll up their subordinate's forecasts to produce their own forecasts. This process may be recursively applied while moving up through various layers of management defined by the organization's hierarchy.

Abstract:
A method for building wizard-style user interfaces (UIs) for a business task is disclosed. The method includes receiving metadata at a computer system, where the metadata comprises information regarding the business task, generating an analysis by analyzing the metadata, generating user guidance information, and executing flow and business logic of the business task. The user guidance information is with regard to the business task, and the user guidance information is based on the analysis.
A touch screen that employs a lens-less linear IR sensor array and an IR light source from a single location at the periphery of the screen to illuminate one or more objects proximate to the screen surface and detect light reflected from such objects. The sensor array is paired with a proximal grid-like barrier/reflector to create Moiré patterns on the sensor array. Digital signal processing converts such patterns into discrete Fourier transforms. The peaks of the lower order discrete Fourier spectrum as well as the complex phases of the lower order peaks can be used to determine the locations of the objects proximal to the screen accurately. A small number of pressure or surface acoustic sensors at the periphery of the screen are utilized to improve positioning reliability by providing redundant positioning information and registering physical contacts with the screen.

Abstract:
An apparatus for generating purified liquid from an input liquid, comprises, an evaporation chamber, wherein the evaporation chamber is flooded with the input liquid; and a condensation chamber having channels, wherein the channels are disposed in the input liquid, wherein liquid-saturated gases are generated from the input liquid in the evaporation chamber, wherein the liquid-saturated gases are guided into a first end of the channels, and wherein the purified liquid is outputted at a second end of the channels.
Adaptive Harness To Stabilize Airships In High Winds And Method
An airship dynamic adaptive harness is provided to stabilize airships and particularly a tethered aerostat in high winds and atmospheric changes. A novel adaptive device accommodates the supply of a lift gas and simultaneously controls opposing cables in a tethered harness with a cascade control system that provides an immediate and particularly the dynamic control of roll, yaw and particularly the pitch of the aerostat in response to real time environmental flight conditions and impart stability to the airship in high winds using a stability zone geometric suspension control system and enhance the duration of in flight missions. A lifting gas replenishment system and particularly a ground based lifting gas replenishment system adds long duration deployment to the dynamic adaptability to high wind conditions for long term deployment.

After 190 Tries, Are We Any Closer to a Cure for Alzheimer's?
As numerous amyloid drugs have fizzled, however, Big Pharmas interest in alternatives has grown. The industry is realizing you may need more than getting rid of amyloid to cure the disease, says Virginia Man-Yee Lee, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2014, venture capitalists a

As it turns out, this isnt really Silicon Valley practice at all. In a blog post, a former Skype employee, Yee Lee, noted that he had 15 years of experience in Silicon Valley and that Skypes option terms were not the Silicon Valley norm.Yee Lee also worked at PayPal while it was a private company and it had the same provision before going public (see belowl). The effect of this provision is to substantially penalize a venture capital employee who leaves the company prior to it going public.
the company, it terminated not only his unvested stock options, but his vested ones as well. Yee Lee wrote an essay last week describing how, after working at Skype for a little more than a year in product management, he resigned, only to learn that he didn't own the stock options he thought he owned.
